Question

OK, love my new MY03 WRX.

Am teetering over the edge to get a PPP fitted (had the 'discussion' with my wife last night!).

Now while I think the standard car is a little bit too quiet for it's own good, I'm not really looking to wake the neighbours up every time I start the car in the morning either.

How much more noise does the PPP kit generate and is it subtle or totally over the top?

Also, I'm hoping to get out on a few tracks later in the year - does the PPP cause problems for the drive by regs that seem to be in place at most cicuits these days?

my sti8+ppp is noisier than standard car - more significant at low/revs/speed round town - "burbles" more.

sounds georgeous when opened up.

Agree with above comments - mine's a 02 WRX with PPP and yes it is slightly more noticable at tick-over but nothing intrusive just the lovely flat four burble. Driving round town its just the same, a deep, low burble. On the motorway at sensible speeds you notice it but IMHO its not intrusive (can still speak on the hands free mobile kit without issue).

But when you open her up (on the track of course) you do get a bit more noise but this is what its all about. Still not over the top.

Don't want to spend your money for you but if you can afford it and want to maintain your warranty get it done.

Cheers,
Richard.

Am printing this out for "ammo" . Plus I keep leaving EVO lying around open at the WRX PPP Wagon review

I quite like the near silence of the new wagon, and don't want to utterly knacker that with PPP...

It's that burble that I'm after!

Had to resort to the 'it improves fuel consumption' trump card in my 'discussion' last night.

I was then asked the question why I wanted to be a 'boy racer'!!!! (and with my grey hair, I'm anything but!)

the burble on mine is delicious.

At advancing years i got the "boy racer" stuff aimed at me as well ... my answer was i bought it for what it does and it does it very well and i'm not asking you to drive it.

Does you dealer or any dealer close by have PPP fitted to a demonstrator? then you can listen/drive and make your own mind up.

regards,

Didn't think of that - I think Quenby's does have (or is getting) a PPP demonstrator.

I'll call them now!

Go for it,

my my03 wrx with ppp has a nice burble, ( not as loud as my de-catted myoo ), and sounds sooo sweet when i floor it.

And with the extra performance too, it's well worth it.

Agree with the above comments.

The sound is not particularly loud, just a little deeper rumbling than the standard WRX.

The performance is significantly better though which is what counts.

Have you got a wagon or 4 door?

Wagon can be a little boomy with the PPP system. Didn't stop me going for a full decat as well though

Suggest you go to your nearest dealer like I did and ask for a test drive in PPP'd car. I had the same reservations as you regards noise. Once underway on the test drive I decided within the first mile I wanted it fitting to my car !
At motorway speeds it settles to a cushioned burble just audible but the volume control is right under your right foot but this isn't intrusive either just sounds fantastic.
Get it done you won't regret it.

Just had the PPP fitted to my MY03 WRX wagon today. I was similarly concerned about how much noisier it would be but it really isn't hugely different TBH. Yes it is more throbby and throaty at idle, and more vocal when accelerating, but if the standard car had this already fitted from new you would still call it refined and quiet.

Best bit is obviously the extra push and better power delivery. Although was actually expecting it to be a bit more of a beast than it is.

Worst bit is the drainpipe-size exhaust the car now has. Don't particularly want to look like a boy racer - it's me age you know

To sum up, glad I had it done. Not totally convinced about value for money. Maybe as the engine loosens up it will be a different matter.

Well unless anything drastic happens between now and tomorrow morning - the PPP will be ordered first thing!

Now all I need to do is save some more cash to get the stone chips repaired...

Parts ordered today - will take anywhere between 1 and 3 weeks apparently.

Then just get the baby booked in.

May is going to be a good month!

I have a PPP on mine (RB5) and compared to my mates standard MY98 there is more of a burble and a lovely whistling/sucking noise when at about 4 revs.
Guess this is called induction roar.
Fantastic noise

I haven't heard an STI8 with PPP yet. I currently have a MY98 with full scoobysport exhaust(down, mid, back). Would there be a lot of difference between the 2. The reason I ask is because I originally put just the backbox on for a year and it was a bit noisier than standard, but when I put the mid and downpipe on it was much louder.

Also do you get the pops and bangs from the exhaust with an STI8 PPP.
