Hi all ! Please can you tell me if im doing the right thing!!! i am getting the stomach churning butterflies i only experienced when going back to school after 8 weeks of blissful summer hols when i was 15 years old lol my problem is this ..... i am giving up my 5 month old mercedes c class estate car which i basically love to bits because of its solidness and beautiful drive , and the little red devil on my left shoulder has made me place an order for a spanking new sti with prodrive and momo handbrake (simply cos it lookd stunning hehe) what i want desperately to know from you guys is am i doing the right thing? i maybe reaching the beginning of mid life crisis (37 years old) but i am drawn to wanting something that will impress the pants off me . I also desperatly need to know about reliabilty of sti/imprezas are they reliable cars guys? one thing i really dont want to sacrifice is worrying about if thing might overheat in traffic or break down cos its tweaked to death - i guess im looking for nirvana in that i want everything!! your help would be massively appreciated - take care

Take a test drive
Ive owned my MY00 for 3 years now and not one reliability problem
They come with a very good warranty and a performance pack is available for both the wrx and sti (bringing the wrx to 265ps and 305ps for the sti).
Which one is for you though? well get out there but i personally would go for the STi as you get more goodies standard

good news and bad news.
good news ... i chose sti8ppp over bmw/porsche/tvr/evo/vw and don't have any worries on the reliability or useability front - the car is well sorted and has been around for a long time. It also has 60k/3yr warranty. I drive 30k+ miles a year and did not hesitate buying it on practicality or reliability.
bad news ... wife has a E class estate so doesn't need to go in my car - but won't anyway as she hates it. Doesn't like the hard ride, doesn't like the acceleration (my right foot can't help it), and doesn't like the attention it gets from onlookers.
good news (again) ... you'll love every moment and feel excited every time you get in it ... can you say that about a C class or the wife ?

Bad news is your missus will be very suspicious of you from now on as you will appear to have a permanent grin. This will last indefinitely.
Reliability won't be a concern. These days Jap cars are often more reliable than German. A PPP'd Imprezza hardly constitutes a heavily tweaked car, which is why it's still covered by the warranty.
The only drawback, comparing the two cars, is build quality. This is one area where the Japs generally lag behind. But the superiore engineering more than makes up for it. Afterall, we buy 'em to drive 'em, not to sit in and admire the interior.
Welcome to the board.
