Angry

Hi
I am entering this post merely as a warning.
I am a retained firefighter in Ashford Kent, yesterday,Sunday at about 3pm we recieved a call to an RTA with persons trapped on the A2070 Ashford to Brenzett road. On arriving at the crash scene It appeared that an escort van with Father and daughter had ended up on the on coming traffic and had been T boned by a BMW convertible with husband wife and two young boys in the back at what only seemed very high speed..
As it took quite some time to get to the incident the air ambulance had already arrived along with the other emergancy sevices.Unfortunatly the young girl in the van had suffered massive injuries and paramedics advised us she needed to be extracted instantly, during this process unfortunatly we lost her,the paramedics managed to regain a pulse, but once again she lost her fight in the helicopter..
Other crews managed to free the driver and passengers of the BMW including the kiddies which was a big relief to us all..
It wasnt untill our debreif with the police after that to our horror it became apparent that a third car had caused the accident and didnt bother to stop!
Im sure many of you have heard the details on local radio stations today.
This road is used by many people travelling to the coast from the M20 to towns like Camber sands, Lyde and Rye. We our constantly being called out to this road infact its the second in a week!
Now the warmer weather is nearlly with us it only becomes worse, its a very fast road used by many bikers too..
All I ask is if you are using this road PLEASE take care!
Im sorry this sounds devastating news and I feel so sorry for all involved and to the families the lost little girl of only 12 years old..
Please no tacky replys with ref to firefighters..
Take care
kind regards
Andy

It's things like this that make some of us believe you guys deserve the pay rise your asking for.
A very unfortunate incident.

Jesus! Praise to you and the rest of the team who worked to try and save lives in what sounds like a horrific accident. Did the police catch the bastids who drove off?

thats truly awful. I hope it makes others think even for a moment about road safety and how we can all contribute to it.

Very poignant to me as I use the road fairly often on a commute to Dungeness, and it does seem average speed on it always seems fast. I know there are a couple of junctions there very close to fast sweeping corners, and a deceptive blind brow as you cross the military canal, which many people don't realise.

Without defending the person that caused it, there is always the possibility they panicked and will turn themselves in when the shock wears off: I don't think anyone can predict how they would react if they accidentally kill someone. We can always hope.

Unhappy

Thanks for the comments,
We have heard no news about the car being found yet, only that it was a green car! This was only reported from witnesses at the time of the accident!

Andy,
rotten isn't it, I gave up being retained about 18months ago due to a change in circumstances, most of the job was good, just some of it wasn't, I'd rather go to 100 chimney fires than one bad car accident, you never quite what you're gonna find til you get there.
Well done for trying, some battles are lost before they're started though,
Ron.

Cheers Ron,
Any accident is bad,
fatals are ugly,
but kids,well,you probably know yourself..
It really rams it home when you return to station and crews have tears, including myself..
Andy..
