Which is faster p1 0r 03 wrx sti [ppp], anyone driven both.

test driven both recently ... very different cars IMHO
P1 is everything you could hope for from the classic shape, with tremendous poise on the road and gives remarkable confidence.

STI PPP with it's extra gear is quite different - you're nowhere near as aware of your speed and the whole car feels like a technologically advance motor over the P1

Speed - The grunt of the P1 is fantastic, The extra gear of the STI certainly makes the car feel faster.

Given the choice - I'd have the P1 - I'm not sure this package will ever be beaten ... STI is great too, but the P1 is just sooo good!

Forget the official figures.

I had a P1 for 2 years, and have had my PPP'd STi for 6 weeks.

Without a shadow of a doubt, the STi is quicker.

Yes is does lack the rawness, and the shove in the back that the 'classic' had, in particular the P1. However, it is quicker in almost every way than my P1, is far less tiring to drive, and has far more grip. On the same roads that saw the P1 occasionally scrabble for grip, the STi just sails round.

Top speed on the P1 is better though.

Just my opinion of course.

Interesting to see some Santa Pod times to whether they feel quicker or are actually quicker ?

It will be interesting.

However, on a day to day basis, I'd put my money on the STi.

Agree with Josh, but 0-60 is pub talk. A standing 1/4 is a better benchmark and in gear times or 20 - 60 even better imho.

Not sure what the figures are for the two cars.

Drove a standard 03 STi the other day and performance-wise it wasn't up there with the P1. Handling-wise it was very nice.
Only thing I did find a bit odd (and maybe it's just me) was that it did seem that I sat a lot higher up in the STi, despite fannying about with the seat for ages. P1 position just seems a lot lower and reassuring.....
Anyway, they're putting a PPP on it soon and I'll go back for another test drive when they do to make up my mind

i agree with what josh said, i had a p1 for 18 months , had my 7 ppp for 6 months, its a quicker , better handling but less raw car

P1 with upgraded brakes : £33,000 if my memories correct

STI with PPP (Brembos std) : £27,000
and an extra 30bhp

I'd agree with others sentiments. Also an ex P1 and UK STI owner.

LOL havent got time to count 20-60 in the RA .

Maybe someone should talk to the F1 teams and tell them to qualify on full tanks as weight makes a car go quicker .

Oooooooooooo bitchy!

The power to weight ratio may not be as good as my P1, but the chassis is so much better that it keeps the tyres in contact with the road for more of the time, giving me better traction/grip. It might not be quite as much fun, but it's far quicker.

I drive on the same selection of dual carriageways and country roads that I covered for 2 years in the P1, and there's no doubt the STi8 feels slower. However, it actually feels far more nimble, has better turn in and I find my exit speed from corners and roundabouts are up by 15-20 mph.

So it's obviously all just my imagination then.

Just picked up my STi 8 last week and just had the PPP fitted. I can't really say much as I am still running in at no more than 4K revs :-(.

The STi8 though feels sturdy witha great fel through the chassis in corners, it just seems to breeze them whilst the P1 I had for 6 months still did well but you had to drive it through the corners, if you know what I mean.

STi 8 with PPP should be nice after run in, can't wait.

How should I increase the rev after the 1st service or should I just drive as hard or soft as I feel?

LOL Josh I was only on a wind up . The new cars do feel a lot more stable and solid so I guess you feel more confident to push on and possibly quicker in a lot of situations. I know my RA hates certain roads around where I live as the cars suspension (pink STI struts and springs ) is very upset by bad roads (the 18s dont help either ). Get a nice open non potholed, non bumpy road and the car just flows though. Must admit the car has too much power for most backroads so losing a few bhp/ton probably wouldnt make a huge difference. Would be nice to have an STi8 with the same 225+bhp/ton as my RA though.

So yep P1 is quicker but some will argue that adding 200kgs will make it quicker .
