Im new to the Scooby scene.... Im am in the process of moving over to the Scooby side from the RS..... Im only 21 wet behind the ears but like to live life fast... Iv already owned 3 RS's A serise 2 escort turbo, A Fiesta turbo & at the min im selling my RS2000 mk 5.Also had a clio 16v & a R19 valver + rover 216 gti + a couple of run arounds. Im in 2 minds on what Impreza to get a UK or Import !!
The imports are faster I belive (correct me if im wrong) + dearer to insure ... Any advice would be appreciated.. + why does everyone put MY & then 2 number ie MY03 does this mean there car is a 03 model???
Thanks for your time
Danny

Welcome m8. I moved from the RS scene a while back. Got a scoob really just to say ive had one, and only planned to keep it 6 months or so. But im hooked on them now lol and will only change it really for my dream car a RS500.
As the above post says the worlds your oyster for buying at the minute. How much do you want to spend. Ive got a UK car and with a few choice mods will see you pushing 280 BHP. Ive managed a 13.7 1/4 mile and a correctly timed 4.9 to 60 so ive got no regretts on my decission to buy a UK car.

Forgot to mention insurance imports do generally seem to be more expensive than uk's. I cant see it being a problem getting insured at 21 i was insured on my cossie when i was that age 23 now. Just expect to pay anything between £1500 and £2000. Try tescos they seem pretty good.

Mod what most people do first is a full de-cat. Plenty of exhausts to choose from. HKS, scoobysport, tsl, magnex, blitz to name a few. After that an ecu re-map like the tek2. Youll hear PPP mentioned a lot thats a ecu re-map, exhaust and something else. This is dearer than the tek 2 but if you have a subaru warranty its the only mod you can have done for your warranty to be valid. Alot of people seem to think the tek2 is better value for money and see better results.

Seems like you are in the same boat as me mate, i have an escort gti, **** loads of mods. And i am after an import WRX scooby, from looking around £7000 will get you a mint M plater, low miles too.
Insurance for me 22 is £1400 on an import, however i need a tracker. And thats with Tesco.

bought myself a 95 wrx a couple of months back. came with a nice set of oz 17 inchers, as well as an sti5 picknick table and a front splitter. great car at the start, fastest thing i have ever driven, but then i got a drive in a 400bhp legacy and i wanted more power.
be aware these things aint cheap to run and if you get bitten by the modding bug then you are lookin to have a healthy bank balance. i am currently looking to reach the 300bhp mark with a mixture of boost increase, better breathing, decatted exhaust and better brakes.
insurance wise your age is going to be the killer. i live in northern ireland am male,37, 7 years NCB and i am still paying £620 for TPFT.
Hope you find a nice car that has been well looked after, and after all that "fatherly" advice all i can say is, if you do take the plunge, just enjoy
cheers

bought myself a MY97 wrx and picked it up 3 days ago mate
was heavily into the vauxhall scene with plety of show cars and stuff
the my97 wrx`s onwards have 276bhp a standerd, its a massive change of car, i have a few mates with uk cars, but apaerntly these wrx`s are a lot faster, they also come with a close ratio gear box and mine has the alloy bonnet and bootlid, it also came with a few sti goodies like the rear spoiler and tail lights
i managed to knock mine down to £8500 for a P plate 1996 my97 model with 58 000 on the clock
i am a happy bunny

I believe as a rule the imports, STi's at least? are about 20% more to purchase
I currently have a UK car & it is sweet & seriously quick & i haven't dont a great deal on the mod front but it sure aint cheap! I am toying with the idea of getting a STI type R SERIOUSLY QUICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! at the nd of the year but given i have just shelled out for a new clutch (£800 for a decent racing jobby) & i have the biggest service going coming up & the car is feeling really well poised now i may just stay put I'll c how friendly the bank manager is nearer the time as it will cost a fair wack more just on insurance!!
Tiz all good either way just live the dream

If you import it yourself, you save yourself so much money! Im 21 and paying £1500 with tesco and need a tracker.
I imported MY95 import black for way less than £7000 (including all sva costs, shipping, import, vat etc) and it has very low mileage.
BHP, easy to get up. Ive only had mine 2 months and i have changed it from 260 bhp (some debate with this as some people say the 95s are 250 standard) to 291.
Shop about mate. For £7000, you should be able to get a nice 95, pay for the insurance in one go and may have some for the tracker to

If you want to see a variety of scoobs dan im from doncaster and reguarly meet up with 4 or 5 sometimes more people from rotherham and sheffield during the week with scoobs. Imports, uk's and even a p1 comes along. They range from standard to seriously quick cars.
If you want leave a post for me or mail me and you can come along and make your mind up.

Not sure where you are but there's going to be a big meet at lightwater park....look at the northen section for the "Northern Big One."
I'd guess every scooby made will be there somewhere and LOADS of friendly owners to talk to.
