Check out the threads in General Technical relating to noisy tappets, this may be your symptom. Cured mine with Wynns hydraulic valve lifter fluid at the oil/filter change.

Ricco - how can you say that? There are too many scare stories of piston slap, resulting in sleepless nights. It seems to be on Scoobynet at times if you report an engine noise while cold on an MY98 then PISTON SLAP is the cause. As I understand it a few light tappety sounds while cold are normal. If you can hear tarzan on a drum - this could be piston slap.
I have audio files for piston slap noise, but even these are difficult to make out.
Leave overnight at a dealer/specialist for them to analise on cold start up is my advice.
