I Test Drove The Beast
#1
Well, what can I say, my mind has been made up I think.
The main concerns about buying the STi Prodrive Subaru were these.
1. Ride
2. How Scary
3. Interia
First off the ride was much better than I thought it would be. Its so so good down bigger holes than the Cupra, but any thing no Deeper than an inch it breezes over. You do REALLY feel the big bumps. But this is to be expected.
How Scary? Well it is a pusy cat under 3500 RPM, it does not want to drive fast, and it actually takes a firm foot to get it going. For me this is great, exactly the opposite to what I had been told it would drive like. Take it above 3500 RPM and it pulls like Robbie Williams in a brothel, there is no stopping it, it feels as if it wants to go for ever, and it has a nice little gear change light that comes on too which is nice. The noise is awesome, although the PPP version which I will be getting is meant to sound even sweeter.
The inside is actually very good, I remeber sitting in my mates old P1 and trying hard not to breath on the dash for fear of scratching it. The inside of the new Subaru is actually very nice, no rattles, really firm door close.
I only a few bad points, most of which are girly nit picking faults, 1. I did not like the Clock, it reminded me of my Maestro Vandan Plais, 2. The Horn is crap, you have a manly car and a horn that would not scare a sparrow although this is easily fixed with a quick trip to Halfords. 3.The Radio Head unit, looks nice enouigh until you turn it on. 4. The Front Air scoop on the bonnet vibrates, you cant hear it but you can see it. 5. The Rear Spoiler moves alot.
Apart from that its a wonderfull car. It makes that unmistackable Rally car noise when moving through the gears. In fact the best part of the test drive was waiting at the lights just listning to the Engine and Exhuast note.
Great Car.

Must admit, my Wife laughed when I used my horn . She said the same as you "how can a car like this have a weedy sounding horn"
BTW, the whole bonnet is alulminum so it does all move at times, don't worry about it. As for the slow pick up, be carefully when you get it, it can catch you out if you forget. The PPP improves this by moving the boost down the rev range a bit, but it does take some of that 4000 rpm pull away .
Enjoy and don't think about the fuel to much

uhhm, concerning the horn, it sounds more "friendly" because it's a Japanese car. and if you have ever been to Japan you would know that horns are always used to say "thank you", e.g. if you drive in a very narrow side street and somebody stops in a gap to let you pass ,you would push the horn to express your thanks.
Horns in Europe have a mean sound because it is mainly used to tell somebody "you fecking *******!!!".
