ello im new
and a N00b lol
anyways im buying a wrx import thingy from this bloke and he tells me that its this
""1996, P registration, Subaru Impreza WRX Turbo 4x4, 280 bhp face lift model, absolutely immaculate untampered with, one owner, air conditioning, power windows, power steering, central locking, sports seats, alloy wheels, Japanese music system, 56000 miles, U.K. registered £ 8995""
now ive seen the car and its possibly the cleanest car ive ever seen , he imports them to make a living and is kosher, the thing that puzzeles a few people is the fact that its advertised at 280bhp, i asked him and he said "well its 276 or sumthing to be precise"
its also classed as the face lift model, acording to the sidc FAQ the face lift model does indeed have 280ps(ie 276bhp or whatever)
the thing im worried about is that my mate has a w reg model which is facelifted imo, its gotr the crystal headlights, diff bumper etc etc, and mine doesnt have these lol
so is mine a face lift??
heres sum pics
if its not a face lift i will be dropping the price down when i goto settle the bill, whats the genral idea with these
is it the facelifted 1996 model or not??
did they get yet facelifted yet again for the new bumpers??
heres a few fotos
i did notice the newer rear spoiler and sti rear lights
heres an engine bay pic if that helps??
was hard work finding an insurance qoute as well
im 25 in 2/3 months and nobody wanted to know under 15`s
and a N00b lol

The crystal light were in a later model, 99/00 model year I think (maybe 98 too)... but the white one pictured certainly looks like a MY'97... I'm sure someone will correct me thou....

Ive heard loads of different stories about bhps. I think its said
1993/94 are 240bhp
1995 are 260bhp
Over and 280 with a few exceptions.
However ive heard of a few 95s going to a rolling road expecting 260 and only getting 245-250!
I know this doesnt help but my point is it might be worth taking it to a rolling road when you do buy it so you know what it is pushing before you start modifying

Where is the black STI round badge on the front lower wings to say its an STI ? Why aren't the pipes under the bonnet red ?
I will post a picture of a "true" STI type IV later...
In the meantime be wary of the sellers description.
Blutes
p.s. No Impreza to my detailed knowledge has ever been fitted with crystal indicators as standard, UK or Japan.

STI's were available with 4 or 2 doors. Tell your mate his Clitto 172 won't touch a "classic" WRX or even a UK Turbo for that matter. A new age WRX may be a close call but in the wet ? Plus if the new age WRX has PPP then he will be eating its dust.

It is the face lift, probably will be running around 276 and its definately not an sti, looks to me as if the prev. jap owner has had a couple of extras added or put them on himself.
Not a bad car for that money m8. IMO...
Probably already know its not an sti m8, I was telling others...

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be clever I thought you thought it was an STI Jap spec of some sort
These are the differences in the 1996 and 1997 models (its all in the grille design.

The larger rear spoiler fitted to yours didn't appear on UK cars until Oct 1998 for MY99. Don't know about Jap spec cars though, it may have been an extra ? STI III's (1996) had the small "flat" spoiler found on UK cars up to MY99 and all Sports.
