Twice now I have attempted to do Northern runs and pretty much no interest has been shown.
I suppose and accept no one likes me , fair enough.
But stop going on in the Northern section asking for runs and not bothering to support people(ME!!) who can be arsed doing what you ask. In the summer I spent over £200 in fuel doing runs for my first reccy. Why do I bother.

Don't take it personally mate, it's not that we don't like.... you do have some stinking luck when it comes to organising a meet though!

Personally speaking I would prolly have gone on your original meets but IIRC they clashed with summat else.... as for the last one, my car has issues as does my wallet, sorry!

I think there has been a general down turn in folk turning up, I don't think it's just you!

Don't give up hope!

only an idea but when arranging a meet etc if everyone who might be interested posted their top 4or5 most convenient dates (no. 1 most conv. etc) then the organiser may find it easier to pick a date most likely to elicit the greatest response on the day ...only an idea ..what do you think?

I know how you feel, I had a lot of response for the Treasure Hunt, but on the day, hardly anyone turned up (thx to the peeps who did and those who couldn't make it due to unforseen circumstances )

CW and I wasted days off work and **** knows how much in fuel. The proceeds were for charity too!!!!!!!

You will not get much interest in Winter, I don't know why but even meets inside nice warm pubs don't get much attention.

Please don't give up, just wait till the spring & people will be itching to go on a run

I will re-start doing runs in about May If I can be arsed to now my recee assistant is moving down under

Have to say, the only reason i havent been on the recent runs is because my car is tucked away for winter.Look at Crafts thread, i'm trying my damnest to postpone it until March, though i think i'm the only one to actually reply who intends attending (and then only if its put back a month, and the weathers good).

AlanJack, that is a shame . We had a meet of the Skoda guys mid December and had a lovely run out round the Dales. Turn out was pretty good with about 12-14 RSs and a couple of 4x4 turbos. If you have any routes we'll take them off your hands or if you fancy trying to arrange something with our members up in your area, go post on there, 4 or 5 of them are always up for a gentle tour of the countryside , its a bit far for me but I can usually be persuaded to make the effort (well, it is only 220 miles each way from home)

I assume you are you talking about Scoob/car runs that you have been trying to setup, not the "My Scoob is faster than your Bike" runs/races/challenge that you were trying to setup a while back in the Biker forum?

It has to be said, your posts in the biker forum didn't exactly make you my favourite person, Alan.

On the other hand, my car has been off the road so I haven't attended any runs.

Problem is Alan is that you seem to open your mouth before speaking and have annoyed a few people that I'm aware of.

You do seem to have a bombastic attitude.

IMHO of course

Thumbs up

Keep at it dude, it takes about 4-5 attemps to get the ball rolling.
I found that the following helped:

Give plenty of notice (4 weeks + if poss.)
YOU are the meet organiser so YOU set the date, time and venue
Offer as little choice as possible
Accept that you will have a 50% fall out rate any less is a bonus
Keep it simple i.e Pub meet only or drive finishing at a pub for lunch. Remember it's YOUR meet, you decide.
If you have a good turn out at a meet, stick to that formula, people will soon let you know if they are getting bored.
Don't worry about people not turning up because they have the hump with you due to summat you may have posted on Scoobynet. If they are that type of person, don't worry, concentrate on the people who are there
Don't post and give everyone grief about not turning up. It won't help with the next one!

Hope it helps

Think it's symptomatic of people in general these days...

I've recently resigned from the social committee where I work after 4 years of organising events and watch them collapse at the last minute as nobody turns up or pulls out

Only way to guarantee attendance was to obtain a substantial enough deposit or to offer free booze

Cheers
Si

Organising a meet has nothing to do with bikes, correct. It does require a responsible attitude and maturity.
