Why is it always the drivers side one that takes longest to thaw out
When finally got parked at work the damn thing was still frozen after an hour driving
Anyone from colder parts got any handy tips??
And no I can't afford to move to the Bahamas before anyone suggests it
Thanks
Si

The Bahamas sucks - try Dubai - tax free, currently 30 degrees C, no traffic cops and SUL at 1GBP (oh yeah - per GALLON!!!!!!)

You could try puting some flexible heating duct pipe running from above the downpipe up to the washer jets/pipes just to direct a bit of hot air in their direction.
I'd guess that with the scoop forcing cold air under the bonnet, the back of the bonnet (where the jets are) doesn't heat up much.

LOL @ Marty
On a more serious note, are the scoobs pipes notoriously narrow or something, as the other cars I've had have all thawed out quicker?
Anyone tried fitting wider pipes or whatever??
Any peeps from Finland/Sweden or Penicuik who must have to deal with this daily

Hi SiPie
I don´t know what kind of stuff you guys are using as screenwash,
but ours contains isopropanol alcohol.(Any lowpriced whisky will do the same work, with an interesting aroma to it...) :-)

Cheers Stefan
I'm going to try and source some better stuff as I just thought screenwash is screenwash and never really gave it much more thought than that.
Will have a look
Cheers

If you mix a "good amount" of neat meths into plain old water this makes a great screenwash that does'nt freeze up easily.
The spirit cuts through the road grime on your screen well too.

Good luck SiPie!
I just came to think about "the poor mans mix", maybe something to try out?
Mix 0,25-0,5 litres of isopropanol or methanol in the container and then add dishwashing detergent...with care, try to avoid turning the windscreen into a foambath...hehe...
I guess 0,5 dl maximum will do.
What about the chanses that you guys i Scotland get any snow on the roads to play with? (I have never been there, but i´ve heared
that it snows sideways there?) :-)
Here in Stockholm we are still waiting for the snow and the fun to begin...
Studded 185/65 15" tires are rattling on the asphalt right now...

Know what you mean, I got back a few week ago and have not stopped feeling cold and miseable since !
Didn't see many scoobies when I was out there but as your petrol is so cheap (1/2 price of water !!) and the lovely straight road and dry weather, I could think of many other cars I would have instead of my scoob

Being lazy I usually buy the ready mixed stuff that works down to -20 degrees, but Mrs Zax is forever telling me that I waste money so I'm back on the mix it yourself stuff now. Like Stefan says, contains isopropanol but I'd have to check the bottle to remember what dilution I used... Suffice to say it doesn't freeze (coldest so far this year -24 degrees in Lapland) and smells rather powerful when you squirt the screen

My old Carlton GSi3000 had heated washer jets. You could allways get some from a scrappy off any old hi-spec car. They were wired in with the rear headted screen. Worked very well. Thawed out in seconds.

On a serious note - why not get heated washer jets which are fitted to many mondeos, and are buttons to buy out of Ford (£30 or summit?).
They work great. They come on with the heated front screen on a Mondeo.
