2,336 drivers caught speeding at RAC Rally
#1
There is a story on BBC Sport that says that 2,336 drivers were caught speeding at the RAC Rally over a 4 day period.
Fastest was 135mph, about £140k in revenue for the South Wales Police.
Cheers

so will the welsh people see any improvment in their policing ?
will the rally organisers chage it to the GB rally instead of south wales rally, are other police forces asking for the rally in their area so they can get the grubby hands on some of the money ?

lol youre not gonna approve of the 180+ mph convoys on the way to usc this year then :lol ah well u cant have a go at me bout my driving as u all well know the scooby wont reach those speeds as its as aerodynamic as a brick still i think on a quiet motorway that speed isnt so bad, espaecially if the driver/car can handle it. Look at the german autobahns, they manage.

Im sure a detailed AA road survey a few years ago stated that speeding was the cause of approximately 4% of RTA's
We all know its for Revenue rasing thats why when the Northants police were allowed to keep the revenue the number of Gatso and other ticketing offences went from 4000 to over 100000!!
Does anyone know how the UK can flout the EU regulations on the Human Rights Act with the gatso's?
The amount of mobile units they have now is amazing - talking to my American colleagues they just laugh at these things - if your not caught at the time they cant do you - suppose thats why in the States theres troopers everywhere on the Interstates..

I wonder if they had blitzed the area on a non-RAC weekend, how many speeders would have been caught? (2000?) This statistic on it's own is quite meaningless. IME it is more often the locals that are speeding.

But now they've been fined and given points, they'll more likely be careful about their speed in future so they're even less likely to have an accident now (unless they spend more time watching the speedo than the road ahead ).

I dont disagree - I was more asking how they can get away with some off this stuff - applies more to Gatso's though
I have 2 laser jammers on the Scooby so they can try their luck! (one on the front and rear!)

The only reason people were speeding was due to the police **** up on the roads, holding everyone back in miles and miles of traffic jams as they let out all the people from the stages going into Cardiff.I travlled 500 miles to see the rally and never went above 70 mph all the way down to Cardiff.WE left Crychan on Saturday at 4pm giving us 3 1/2 hours to get to the super special. We arrived at 745 and missed the start. Why? beacuse of the police organisation on the roads.I found it quite Ironic that every one was risking driving licences and driving fast and to a point dangerously only due to the police in the first place. I was gutted to travel 500 miles and miss the rally, what a waist of time and money, but I wont be going again, thats for sure.

No, but you raise a very pertinent point. Colin McRae was done four times over the course of the rally week. He will receive nothing more than a warning (although the situation is complicated due to him holding a Monaco driving licence). Do you think Joe Spectator would have got off so lightly?
Wasn't it Petter that was doing the 135mph

Well, for those who spectate I can only give you MHO which is if you were speeding over the duration of the rally then you deserve to be done. I think it is pretty much common sense that the police are going to use the event as a revenue raiser, oooops sorry "safety"
In fact anyone caught speeding can't complain - myself? I have 6 points and forked out over £600 in fines, every bit deserved.
Anyhow the Rally GB isn't South Wales - it is just the Vale of Neath - hardly inclusive of most of S. Wlaes
More convenient, but the rawness of how it used to be back in the old days when I were a wee lass following mym mum around at rallies has finally dwindled away.
