Talking

Popped into the local scooby dealer today and was speaking to the salesman, who told me that there are now no more bug eyes left in the UK (except those ones already purchased by dealers) and he also said that the price of the bugeyes had 'gone through the floor' whilst the price of the classics were stronger than ever.... and he also said that the orders for the 03' were not as good as they were expecting.

hmmmmmmmm.

Was looking in the trader and top marques today - I remember a thread here recently saying that the cost of classics would soon be more than the equivelant new shape. Lots of people (mostly MY02 owners ) saying "no, it wont happen".

Well there was a classic 2001 Y model which was up for more than the equiv new shape.

Just had a look in Autotrader Online and a search for Imprezas with the keywords Turbo and WRX brought up 134 cars Nationwide. I got to page 10 before there was any sign of a Bug Eye and apart from one unregistered Classic shape, all were priced higher than the older model.

There were huge number of classic shaped cars under £8K.

Once all the "fuss" of the price reductions and the bad press had dissappeared then we might start to see sensible price guides, but till then things are a bit up in the air, its all about what someone is willing to pay for the car. Its a buyers market.

It doesn't worry me in the slightest. I'm really pleased with my 02. Way better than any of the Classic shapes I've owned (and I was chuffed to death with them at the time too). If there are any classics out there for Bug Eye money - good luck to the sellers, as I'd have the newer car everytime.

Just have a look at the prices of the cars for sale on the official Subaru UK website

Edited to agree with Toonmans comments.

will be interesting, I hope that the classic shape doesnt go downhill, I spent 15k 6 months ago, hopeing it'll be worth over 10k if I sell it in the next year or so!

I think one pulling factor for the bugeyes at cut price is being able to get a WRX STi and them PPPing it and having some serious power for not a lot!

Of course the Classic is going to get the money - Subaru couldn't even sell the BugEye without knocking 15% off its price!

The Classic never dropped in price, except when they had run-out models to sell, - That classic with 0 miles at £17k looks a bargain to me ........ I am really tempted, where is bespoke cars??

People still point at my classic and smile - cannot see many point to a BugEye other than to wet their pants with laughter at its stupid face and 4rse!!

agreed, if I see a classic coming i smile and it reminds me just how good i look driving along i see a bugeye and its just not as impressive! Besides wasnt the subaru classic a more successful rally car? which also makes it more familiar to peeps. Love the classic, gonna keep it until subaru make another impreza worthy of my money and by the looks of the MY03 i'm keeping it for another 2 years at least!

"when they had run-out models to sell"

What's the current price drop for, except to get rid of "run-out models"...?

I got good deals on the 3 new Classic shapes I bought, going back to April '94. Got a good deal on my 02 WRX. Nothing changed for me.

As for no one looking except to laugh? Maybe it's the Morettes on mine that make all the difference, but I've never had a car that attracts so many admiring looks, and comments. That includes my 1st Impreza Turbo which hit the road on the day of launch in the UK. Few had any idea what the car was back then.

Each to his or her own however, but all I can say is after 155,000 trouble free, fun filled miles in the previous cars, the 6500 ones in my Bug Eye, have been the best yet.

pete - if you read that advert closely you'll see it says WRX which means if it is a classic shape and a WRx then it's an import!

my01 wrx with morreted & fat spoiler attract far more looks from people than my old cat with super legaro ever did! fact! the bug eye is far superior interior wise & the lump feels way stronger than my old cat ever did, specially with the decat, at the end of the day whatever turns you on, imho the bugeye is the better package when when i purchased.
