Washed my engine and bay!!!
I was very concerned about spraying engine cleaner all over and then jet washing it all down - BUT I warmed the engine up, sprayed my degreaser all over, let it soak - covered over the alarm unit and jet-washed the lot.
I looks BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So glad I finally did it!! Cost me £1 too!! Paound shop engine cleaner see??!! RESULT!!

ROFL I thought that wa.........
Was going to be "waved" not "washed" .
I saw the Wax Wizard do one an Donno and look superb when he had finished. I was a bit apprehensive about spraying water in my engine though, mind due there is already three great holes in my bonnet .

Thought the Wa.......... would get a few views!!
I was not at all convinced about spraying the engine with gallons of water - but I have to say, I would do it again!! Just before MOT next May maybe?

spray on GUNK let it settle for a while, brush some more GUNK on the stubborn bits then hose off, Jetwash is not needed, do all the above when the engine is warm, try not to soak all the electrics, a bit of over spray on them wont hurn but a full on soaking may cause some problems, as soon as you have finished spraying start the car, let it idle until normal working temp, then take it for a drive once back home leave the engine running whilst you wash dry polish the rest of the car by then all the engine bits should be properly dry.
been doing this sort of thing to engines for the last 26 or so years & so far [reacing out & touching wood] no problems

Barge - you forgot the very best bit - close the bonnet when running the engine to dry it, it adds a self steam clean also!! AND its great seeing the neighbours running over saying the car is on fire!!!

Look at http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...hreadid=152880 to see pics of the alloy bits corroding. You will need to spray on some lacuer or goo. Halfords will probably do some protective stuff for this purpose.
Your engine really won't look very nice for long if you don't.

Lewis .. it may be ok now ... but a little water ingress into any of the cable connectors may lead to some corrosion in weeks months to come ... you might be ok, but i wouldn't chance it.
