Get your wheel alignment checked, I did very similar and bent bottom swinging arm, couldn't see the damage, but you could feel it.

Otherwise your damned lucky there wasn't a post in the hedge

Yesterday i put my Terzo through a hedge at around 80 mph side ways all the damage it did was scratched the side,also a little dent and lost the drivers side mirror,the body shop said the scratches will polish out and the dent will push out.Now i need help to tell me how to take the mirror off please.

Of course it was a private test track i forgot to say that bit, and some nosey person contacted the old bill, who phone to see what happened.

You seem to have found the most extreme way of removing the mirror, Haynes manuals are a bit safer.
