Just been out in the car, weather is pretty cold and there is a bit of fog about, and had a bit of a "what the hell just happened" experience.
I was giving the car a bit of a flogging, stuck it in fifth, foot down, reaching about 120-130 when suddenly it just stopped pulling and was like lifting off the accelerator very quickly in a low gear! I obviously let off straight away and then it was ok. I was a bit bewildered and after a while thought id give it another go, same thing!? I then decided enough and drove the car back home, slowly.
Car is STi V5.

Souds like it could be but I would have expected it earlier at lower speeds. What is the spec of the car? Mods?

Car has a full decat ss exhaust with a HKS super power flow induction kit. Ive been running it just short of a year now and never had anything like that happen.

Sounds like overboost or a boost spike, more likely to get it in cold weather esp. with a full decat

Yup, weather conditions will dictate the amount of boost a car will produce.

Put simply, the cold dense foggy air will provide a nice cool dense feed to the engine, this will produce more boost. The ECU would have cut fuel if the boost got too high, this is what you experienced.

Scary isnt it!

It was scary! I suppose the TEK 3 will have to become more of a priority, and I was looking forward to the cold air months!

Thanx again, XXX

used to get this in my fiesta turbo, do you have a boost gauge, you can usually see if its overboosting that way, it'll just rise up higher than ever before and feel quite quick but the ecu will all of a sudden decide it doesnt like it and cut the power! except it was easy to fix in the fiesta, new amal valve did the trick!

I recently fitted a Blitz Daul DC TT, i understand these arnt the most accurate of gauges but ive had it peak at 1.4 bar which is too high. Ive spoke to john banks with regard to the TEK 3 and it doesnt seem a bad way to go.

Fuel cut is 19.6 PSI or 1.35 bar held for a few seconds, so maybe it is accurate after all?
