Question

Can any of you clued up clever scooby dudes tell me what this car is? I looked at one like this yesterday, had the same plaque on the dash and the rear, WRX on the bootlid to the left in 3" high letters, emblems on seat and something about 1997 on a sticker on the bootlid.
Is this a STi4 or an STi3 ?

What threw me was the fact it had a low level (not sti4) rear spoiler, and I thought the front should have had a lip spoiler on, this one didn't.
I did write down the model number from the VIN plate, do you think I can find the fr1cking piece of paper I wrote on

Thanks
John

Hmm looking at that dash it looks like a 98 model to me, (V4 STi)

As it has the white dials. IIRC the STi 3 still had the early dashboard.

So why the Sti3 style bootlid then?
Also had p-shooter standard rear back-box on, would have thought this would have been a single round one with Sti on as standard.

I am guessing here but due to the face lifted bonnet(...but not yet the indicator area of the bumper) and the face lifted interior I would say its a V4. Looks nice, are you going to buy it? Private or trade. If you could email me details if you are not going to have it I'd be grateful.

Thanks

Tim

STi 3 should have had the mid level spoiler IIRC?

As for the exhaust, I think it was the V5 when the single round tailpipe was introduced on the STi as standard?

However it may well have had a replacement backbox over here.

Thumbs up

I think it's a STi4 Type R V Limited,because of the white clocks.

I'm sure this one was silver...what dark when I got there to view it.

Looked a very nice car, in very good condition.
Just don't know if I want a old style front end after being used to the newer front end on my ex

It looks like an STi 4 given the interior; gear lever surround etc.

Time to hunt for the applied Model Code on the bit of paper that you wrote it down on or make a call and ask them for it

I know what you mean about the front end though! Also i love the crystal style headlights on the later cars too.

From the photos of the interior it did not appear to have the adjustable diff? Do you remember if it did. I have a version 4 and it does.

By the way i am selling it if you're interested.

I'd have checked the date on the seatbelt. Always a good indicator of when the car was made.

If it didn't have a red manifold, could it not be one the much talked about WRX Type-R's??

Newer style dask (MY98&gt, but old sytle front (>MY98) leads me to think it's a MY98, as to whether it's an STI or not, check like the manifold, and the VIN number against the SIDC list.

Its not actually the car in the pictures, I used these as it was identical but it had the low level (1" off bootlid type" rear spoiler.

Mega,

Looks like you've found a WRX type R (Non Sti), I looked at one of these before buying my UK car but couldn't afford the dreaded insurance, from what i've heard though they are very good, might even have ABS! but no centre diff control.

Regards

George

If it is, then yues its a good one.

very very rare, 2 door ra.

abs, but no centre diff.

essentially a p1, but without forged pistons and p1 suspension.

Can be turned into a P1 from beginning to end for about 2k.

Only difference would be redline at 7.5k instead of 8 but power would be the same.
