Repair qoute sucks like a hoover
#1
JHi guys and girls,
Just need a little friendly advice re a bill I recieved for a car repair.
Basically I got hit by a f**king bus and it took my drivers side with it. It pulled the internals out the door, door off the hingers, along the rear qauter and took the bumper too. now the parts came to £1300 but the repair bill comes to £2500. Does this sound as steep to you as it does to me.
Assuming the paint shop/repair blokes gets £20 an hour to do it (highly unlikely) it works out at around 40 hours work. All they actually did was the rear quater, two alloys, bumper straighten the a-post and put on a new door and blend it all to diablo red

diablo Red That'll be a 306 you totalled then
sounds about right considering a front bumper replace and respray by dealer body shop was over 400 squid (306 also)
straightening things is where you money has gone

It is indeed a 306 XSi (in previosly mint condition ) Wait till I get to court, taking em for every last penny. The real **** take is I was stationary at the time on the correct side of the road. !!!

My car needed a front bumper, alloy bonnet, 2 fog lights, 1 headlight, 1 wing, 1 side light, 1 grill, 1 radiator, 1 aircon rad, all parts painting and some TLC. Bill to insurers £3800! MY93 WRX. Worked out I could have got the parts for about £600 myself!

Watch out for the insurance claim. I got hit by a bus on the wrong side of the road and the bus company fought tooth and nail to stop it being a 100% their blame claim.
I think because the company does the insurance dealing they tend to be very agressive.

Post a pic of the damage for a better idea, but 40 hrs dosen't sound a miss for a rear 1/4, bumper, door + A post repair. £20ph is not out of bed for a bodyshop labour rate either.
Paint for a side would be £180 ish.

Fuzz,
If it is called Lucifer Red then it'll be because Diablo Red in France is named Rouge Lucifer - Devil's Red. Someone couldn't be arsed translating it properly, obviously

Is it for your insurance or for your account? If the former (locally at least) it seems to be a starting point for negotiations with the insurance company's assesor who will haggle to get a better price. What about getting a 2nd/3rd quote?

For information
A mate (aged 28)with 10 years experience as a spray painter with local Subaru dealer gets £10.24 per hour.
Bodyshop guys get roughly the same.
Cheers

Hi there guys, soory for not replying quicker but have been away. To answer a few questions, firstly im paying this out my own pocket for the time being until it gets sorted. I will post a few pics tonight, but i only have a few because the digital camara crapped out, but ill post em.
As for the party not taking the blame, let them just try it, because I have several aces up my sleeve Im gonna make sure it hurts them more than it hurt me.
PS The bus company are denying it was their fault and that *THEY* pulled over and stopped - F**King liars, it was me that did that.
If thats true why did i have to kick open my bloody door and run down the road after the coach on foot !

Think you'll find that distance might be your problem here mate.
He did good work on my car, I then put Saxo Boy in touch with him for colour coding etc. and he then proceeded to give him the run around big stylee, so I wouldn't bother wasting your time... shame, as he could have had a nice little earner with all the peeps on scoobynet wanting colour coding etc. But by being so feckin unreliable he blew a small fortune for himself!!
Hope that's what you meant Stuey?

Fuzz,
No problem, I only learned that after a visit to the main Peugeot showroom in Paris. Along with finding out my 106 GTi could have cost me just over £9k brand new from them.
With regards to spraying, I would do my best to find someone who can recommend a person/garage to do the work, as I've seen some shocking jobs done by "insurance approved" bodyshops. Including my dad's Shogun, which had to go back several times. However, when I used a friend of a friend when the 106 needed a bit of work, it was spot on first time round.

I also got hit by a bus, many years ago.
Also stationary, in a line of traffic. The bus, in the queue to the left of me, mounted the kerb to get past a car 2 in front of me. The back of the bus swung round and hit my car.
They also fought tooth and nail, saying first that they didn't know of any damage, then saying that I drove into their bus.
The problem for them was that but my witnesses included passengers on the bus
