To be honest who cares most peeps who drive them out way performance and handling over looks if it goes Slower and handles crap They'll have another 'Bugeye' on there hands.
If they'd made the 'Bugeye' Lighter by 10%, added 10% more power and put WRC or STi lights on it We wouldn't be having this coversation because the 'Bugeyed' would have sold. IMHO
STi7 & S202's all bug eyed and sold out enough said

The new model looks an awful lot better than the current model. If the performance etc. matches the improvement in 'looks' then I might finally change my MY99 after nearly 4 years of ownership.

Its 218PS to 225PS so about 215bhp to 222bhp just down to the exhaust mods. 7bhp is nothing you woudl tell on the road a few degrees colder on a damp day and you would gain more than that. At least its going the right way though

I really need to rant now.
I get sick and fed up with people going on about how bad the bugeye is, some of whom have probably never even sat in one never mind driven one.
I brought a new WRX (5 door) last year, and I can assure you that It does not bother me that I am not driving a so called "CLASSIC SHAPE" (some peple on here think that they are the only Scoobies around worth driving).
People will buy what they want, I personally have no problems with the new MY03 front end, If you want to buy a new one it comes as a package you know?.
Lets all enjoy our cars for what they are, I am sure I am as proud of my so called ugly car has any P1 , STi driver is of theirs.
The Impreza is a fine car, what ever shape its headlights are. Lets enjoy what we have and stop moaning about how it looks.
Rant over, Ill get my coat.

Lets face it, it's all a matter of personal taste. I have a "fugly" bugeye and I love it. I also really like the look of the new 03.
IMO The "classic" now just looks OLD! - Again, most paople appear to prefer it to the 01/02 and that is still pesonal choice.
If you don't like the 01 or even the 03 then don't buy one!!!! just don't critisize everyone that wants to.
The new cars may not have the power to weight ratio of the "classics" but they are more comfortable - grown up if you like. I would not trade my fugly for a classic under any circumstances - it suits me sir!
I'll probably get a bit of a flaming for this but ... don't take it personally!
I think that they all deserve to wear the Impreza badge with great pride.

as the owner of an "old" looking classic I would agree with baby blue - buy whatever you like and dont slag off every one elses car. I dont like the bugeye. I also dont like broccoli but if people want to eat it that is ok with me.
The bug eye is more grown-up perhaps. it is more comfortable certainly. that is exactly why I dont like it and is why I replaced my MY99 with an RB5. My local dealer lent me a bug-eye for a day while the MY99 was in for a big service (perhaps they felt guilty about taking so much money off me). It really was a lot more relaxing to drive but didnt put as big a grin on my face.
its pointless trying to change peoples opinions on the classic v bug-eye thing. it would be more worthwhile talking about broccoli. yuk. horrible stuff.

I seem to be feeling an MY01/02 backslash . When the MY01 came out it was on the whole badly received by the industry, magazines, owners, potential owners and other petrolheads, a Subaru salesman said to me he would have to sell the cars now as before they sold themselves.
So Subaru decided to redesign the bits that the majority of people didnt like (ie the front end). Funnily enough quite a few of the My01 owners have done the same with the lights and there are loads of conversions available. Even SUK got in on it on the UK300 and the STI. The headlight conversion now has Subaru part number .
Personally, I think they have listened to what has been said and done a nice facelift. It seems to have been well received by the majority.
If My01 want to deflect it launch by slagging of classics then its up to them but dont forget which car model started the impreza story .

Don't get me wrong, I'm not slagging off "classics" they are fantastic cars but times they are a changin'
I came from my better half's 1.6 hatch's to a WRX and the difference is just amazing. It is all a matter of perspective, compared to the run of the mill hatches/saloons/estates, all the Impreza's are quite stunning to drive - some more than others admittedly.
I'm now waiting to see what the next change is going to be, hopefully an MY05 - 'cause that is when mine is up for renewal.

I had a choice between buying a classic shape Scooby or the new UK300, and I went out and test drove both for an hour each. I noticed hardly any differnce in performance, but it was the style of the interior that I preferred to the classic shape. The classic seemed to be very dated compared to the UK300. Personal choice again!

> If they'd made the 'Bugeye' Lighter by 10%, added 10% more power and put WRC or STi lights on it
Errr.... when the MY01 WRX (not STI) was launched in Japan, it had lights which were very similar to the MY01/02 UK STI's. It seems that IM (or somebody) thought the lights were a bit controversial, and decided to redesign them for Europe, ending up with the MY01/02 lights we know and love/hate. If they'd stuck with their original (Jap-style) lights, they may not have been in a position where they had to redesign the front end now...
