Diesel & Derek,
I use the SIDC forum for SIDC issues only, as do many - hence it's a bit slow. I also use it for sensetive posts (Scoobynet is too public).
If you ever make the effort to post there though, you'll see that there'll be a limited number of replies but they'll be constructive and, very much, to the point.
Diesel - do I owe you stickers ?

I hope I haven’t missed the boat here, but I thought the SIDC was an organisation run by its members for its members - it is not a profit driven conventionally commercial business?
Well I just went to re-new my membership online, and the odd sum of £22.47 was quoted as the cost. Postage for this little envelope was £3.05 and then sprinkle VAT on all that and it comes to a whopping £30.00! Didn’t I pay £15 or £20 last time and no blo#dy VAT???
The trackday at Bedford I was also going to book had £25 VAT added to the £140.50 cost. Why should we have to pay VAT on this ‘free’ service? The private commercial company who run Bedford probably have to pay VAT on our fees, but why do we have to again pay VAT to SIDC.
I believe you have to register for VAT if you turnover more than £45k pa, but there are clearly ways around this. £25 VAT x 60 trackdayers is £1500 - would rather the SIDC got that...
It should be possible to avoid paying VAT for a non-commercial trackday - I’ve already paid VAT and TAX on the car, tyres, petrol, insurance, airfreshner, nodding Scooby, helmet & brakes and do not want to be ironically further taxed for the privilege of wearing them all out so I then have to pay more tax to replace them (that is if I have anything left from my highly taxed salary).
Sorry for the moan on a ‘goodwill’ service (or rather on the tax element of it), and if there is anything more constructive than whinging that I can do, let me know! I can collect cash-in-hand on the door, say no more guv'nor!

AFAIK, the govt allows so much free VAT for orgs such as the SIDC and then they have to start paying it. There was something about it in the last but one true grip. I think they've now reached the level where they have to start charging VAT. Not bad after 5 years or so though.

SIDC
Is still a club and is not at this stage and no plans at present to become a corporate body
However we have reached the threshold for registration and have no choice but to register
It will be a learning curve for all involved

Now you can see why the subject of TAX is always complex & loads of people have different views on how it all works.
Anyhow Diesel, you should have been following the latest info on the VAT issue within the SIDC forums and True Grip. Not only that, you should have enrolled for lifetime membership at £150 (£125 for upgrade) prior to Oct 1st then you'd escape the VAT and never have to pay for membership again. It helps to keep your finger on the pulse

Surely the VAT is reclaimed by SIDC on its fees for the track day and all of its expenses, so there should be an initial cash flow issue, but after then prices probably shouldn't rise as SIDC doesn't make profit and all the money goes on buying things, most of which should be VAT reclaimable...
ie VAT should be reclaimed on Trackday company fees, printing true grip and pretty much everything else!

£54,000 is approx vat level
As the club grows it will need to buy more materials etc,so it is daft not to reg and get the vat back on these costs, even if turnover is below the limit.
p.s people give up their free time so go easy on them.

What's VAT got to do with profit making????
Its binding on turnover thresholds and does not "add" to profit made by any company. Suggest you do some research before starting off any slagging.
SIDC will now be able to offset VAT on legit expenses against VAT from turnover.

Not Sure who's slagging who? A resonable question was asked [on the wrong BBS IMHO NUMPTIE]
Several People expressed there opinions
I have stated the clubs Position ie we have to register and we are a non profit making club
Perhaps we could move this to the Members or General area of the SIDC BBS if you have any further queries or statements
You may also email me direct phil@sidc.co.uk

Numptie, why would anyone in here visit the SIDC forum, it's under-used. Never any reference to it in true grip either, club don't promote it as much as they should IMHO that is.
Diesel has a point as well, more traffic in here
