When starting my 1997 imprezza 2000 turbo, there is a distinct sound of water, it sounds like air is being blown threw water.
any help welcome.

Does it have aircon fitted??
Sometimes you can hear the coolant start to flow around the system, nothing to worry about,it happens on most motors

Hi yoza,
the sound seems to come from near the bulkhead or under the dash, and is quite loud. However it stops very shortly after starting, so it could indeeed be related to the air/con unit as discribed above..

akshay, that sounds like the fuel pump priming as part of the cold start routine. If you don't get the noise when you restart a warm engine it's a possible source of the sound.

My MY98 makes a hissing sound for a couple of seconds when started up from cold

Probably your bearings going they don't last long on scoob's and would be well on there way out on a car of this age

Thumbs up

mike p, yes u r right - it doesn't happen when the car is warm. thanks 4 that as i started 2 bug me.

co55ie - thnx 4 the input, but the sound is there when the car is stationary and just ignitioned, so doubt the bearings.
