Just bought aug/sept edition of Banzai and theres an article in there about two 400 bhp cars,an Impreza and a GTiR.
The acceleration figures are astonishing
STi IV GTiR
0-10 0.58 0.58
0-20 1.03 1.06
0-30 1.52 1.69
0-40 2.11 2.70
0-50 3.21 3.45
0-60 4.11 4.25
0-70 5.99 6.52
As you can see from these figures these are very quick cars and the owner reckons a sub 4 seconds is possible with practice!!!
Do you know of any Imprezas that have truly been timed at this speed!!!!!!
Cheers

Both these cars have been prepared by DP Motorsport in Warrington, the scoob is awsome I've seen it!

I think one of them is running at Santa Pod this weekend, is anyone going? (or by the time some read this ) has anyone been?

InsBro

There is quite a funny story about the first day the scoob was tested by the owner after the recent mods - hence the P1 Bumper but I'll let him tell that!!

A local car magazine tested the MY01 STi RA here and did 0-100km/h in 4.2 seconds. The car was supposed to be stock but I have seen an exhaust on it, and it was dynoed at 231Kw at the flywheel.

Interesting -

Performance Car got a stock Scoob (215bhp) to do 0-60 in 4.99 secs.

Does it really take an extra 185bhp to get the extra 0.88 secs?

I also heard of a couple of Scoobs unofficially timed at sub 4secs - both would have claimed around 320-340 bhp.

Performance car did that sub 5 second run with nearly empty fuel tank, one up and in one direction only IIRC. Presumably traction quickly becomes a limiting factor as you get quicker times?

Ive just got back from Santa Pod and saw the purple GTiR in question go down the strip. Very impressive, I saw it run at York dragstrip last month and was drooling over it there as well!!

A couple of the Scoobys I saw run did well, mid 13s but they all ran with relativly low terminal speeds and a number of them crossed the line at just 80mph!!

Oh, and what was the quickest car of the day (well the quickest I saw run).........well it didnt come from Japan It was black, 16 years old and had a blue oval adorning its boot. I saw it run an 11.8 second run, quicker than the GTiR, the superbikes, the Lotus Esprit turbo and even faster than the Diabalo (but then so was a Mini!!).

And the run was done on a nicely rubberised piece of tarmac (Santa Pod?) Near-ideal conditions for a 0-60 run and a nice demonstration of what an utterly useless and variable statistic it really is.

I've got an ivite to this Banzai Magazine thrash next week - so we'll be using the same timing gear!

As far as i know, theres quite a number of us going up - su it should be interesting to compare more standard cars to the hreavuily modded one in this months mag.

Nito's got his car on the rolling road today coz he's accepted he's gonna be beat!

How much is a new clutch anyhow Got to be done tho!

Nitrous,

To my knowledge it wasnt a 500 and I dont think its running Nitrous. From what I can gather its running 380bhp and 4wd. The owner also owns the white Maestro Turbo that was running 12.6!

As the owner of the sti i can assure you that the first days testing was not funny at all. Car did 360 degrees in its own length.Learnt to drive it since then.

Ok, just to put a downer on it last sept when i was at USC there was an impreza there, white sti, pushing 340bhp i believe, it did the 1/4 mile in 10.99 yup 10.99, now thats quicker than ive seen any cossie do it, think the terminal speed was around 109mph too
Now as for banzai, well there loss that im not going with my ppp'd scoob, and to think i did a great "traffic lights grand prix" today too!! cleaned me clutch plates and i didnt bog me turbo either!! nice n smooth from 4k

A Scoob with a genuine 400bhp would surely be capable of 0-60 in around 3.5 secs as my car managed 4.5secs with just 235bhp at the Scoob vs Cossie shoot-out!

Tony.
That's clearly a mistake. For a Scoob to run 10.99 the terminal speed would have to be up around 130mph.
I've run at The Pod and posted a time of 11.5secs with a terminal speed of 99.8mph which was also, unfortunately, a mistake.

Hi Guys

Just returned from the shoot out at Bovingdon today, Tony Brooks M.A.D. Escort Cossie ( 400 conversion ) ran 3.23 to 60 and 11.9 1/4 mile. Not bad for an old Dagenham Dustbin sure looked quick. I could only manage 4.4 to 60 and 12.7 1/4 mile in the EVO, guess I need some practice.

Cool

I know of a cerain mildly tweaked STI 3 Type RA VLimited that managed 0 to 60mph in 3.8 seconds two up with a full tank of fuel.

Moray,

you and Neil weren't far from my mind when I posted.

I agree with Stef - a genuine 400bhp would whip *** on 4 secs.

Also, 11.8 at Santa Pod seems a tad quick for 380bhp - I bet he had more. What's Rainbird getting these days?

There must be a point where a brick wall is reached....

With higher power comes less traction and more lag - a few tenths of a second lag will put an end to a decent 0-60.

I reckon mine will be slower to 60 than previously, but faster thereon......

And 3.23 for an Escort is awesome

Kevin, were you and the cossie in convoy just thru High Wycombe and on your way to Amersham about 07:40 yesterday morning? A dark coloured cossie with M.A.D developments sticker followed by a silver Evo went passed me. I suspect it was you two . I live very close to Bovingdon and would have spectated had I known. Oh well.

Cool

To put the record straight the 4.11 0-60 time of 4.11 was put up on the third attempt with a full tank of petrol and a rear diff unit about to fall apart so we could not try to improve on the time.
Never thought i would provoke so much discussion. Replaced diff unit now so things running much smoother.

Craig

Depends what you call reasonable i guess

Looking forward to Monday, car needs new rear tyres so this seemed like a good way to finish them off!

So, short gears, slick (!) tyres, lsd front axle, spare wheel taking a days leave, empty the CDs out the glove box should save 10lbs, etc etc.....

What was your best time out of that article?

And is a GPS based system REALLY gonna be that accurate?
