I keep seeing threads on scoobs doing sub 12 runs and even 10 sec runs in OZ and we are always talking about how fast bikes are in comparison. What are the 1.4 mile times for a standard road bike like an R1? Im guessing under 10 secs but would be interested to know for sure.

Simon.

Standard R1's and GSXR1000s are posting between 10 and 11 second 1/4 mile runs.
Those cars are very very quick to get that sort of performance.

I've done:

10.43 @136mph
10.51 @135mph
10.53 @137mph

I think I need a new clutch as well. Holding the rev's ~8k(ish), and keeping it there while you accelerate, without pulling a wheelie or doing a wheel spin takes its toll.

I missed the last Performance Bikes day (in this months mag), which is a shame

Bikes aren't terribly suited to 1/4 miles as stock as the above poster mentioned. It's difficult to lay down your 130bhp without either flipping the *******, spinning the back wheel or going slowly.

Give me a Hayabusa with 6" over swing arm and lowered and I'll show you mid 9's all day long.

Forgot to include hanging over the front of the screen, getting your leg tucked in (the one you were balancing on before you set off), changing gear, and then getting tucked in at the right time.....

I recorded those times at East Kirkby. I struggle to break 11's at York cos the surface is crap.
Hopefully have a blast at Elvington in October, because the surface is very good there for grip, very similiar to Kirkby by the look of things.

The 200mph club are doing a car/bike RWYB day with terminal testing at 1.5 miles. Should be interesting if I can get along.

I think where the bike would win out is accelerating out of bends rather than getting away from a standing start, less rubber and a good chance of looping

On the road I think a bike will under normal circumstances be quicker than a car, but depends on the road and conditions.

But comparative times are not what it is about to me, it is about enjoyment, I can enjoy myself on almost any bike, the same cannot be said for any car.

Thumbs up

Also the R1/GSXR1000s are totally standard and sub £8k investments.
With regular (and fairly cheap) servicing they will last for ages.
A Scooby tuned to do a sub 10 second 1/4 mile is going to need expensive and very frequent servicing, not to mention the fact it most likely cost 1/2 as much again as it's original list (or maybe more).

If we are comparing bike/car here you'd really need to look at the 1/4 times on a tuned R1 or GSXR1000, which you will find in the region of 7-8 seconds for the seriously tuned bikes - although these won't handle on the bends as well as stock as they have extended swingarms and usually an extra set of stabilisers to stop the bike flipping!
