Yup - complete waste of time Only ever used by Ez when she's p1$$ing about in PTMW!

However, there was once talk of a "conversion" that would re-wire it to the turbo actuator, so that when off, the turbo would not spin work thus saving fuel or acting as an anti-theft or anti-wife speeding type mechanism

I got overheard discussing the idea & got a bo11ocking from wifey

Mind you I would be interested to know if it had ever made it to fruition? Anyone? I'd fit it for the fuel saving capability alone - honest

It is wired up to produce flames in some markets but European rules meant that the purpose of the switch had to be allocated to something rather less interesting...

Quite simple to change the switch to activate a lower boost pressure on waste gate. Done this 3 years ago. need a solenoid to complete setup.

Now use it for water injection activation and another one for something else....

Hear, Hear.
My old 205 [/nostalgic faraway look ] had a rheostat that adjusted the brightness of the dials across a wide range, not just 2 positions. Can't believe that the MY02 only adjusts the mileometer brightness and not all the dials Waste of space. Would de-activating the turbo affect my warranty etc. etc.

I have wired mine up to the wing mirrors - little is it known that there are heaters within them and the wiring passes just behind the bright switch - much more useful!!

Totally agree - complete waste of time - all it does it change the display of the clock and LCD's. I think the brightness of the displays is a bit too bright and would love to be able to dim the whole thing like i could in my BMW, Alfa, Mondeo....

OK - so we all agree that they are fa use BUT we have two members with innovative solutions.

Please share with the community these solutions but not just by saying its done, but by saying HOW its done - with diagrams, instructions & parts lists for the non-tech amongst us - like me!

Cheers

I actually miss it in my STi.

I used to use it!! Seriously!! I drive everywhere in daylight with my headlamps on. If you have dark sunglasses on you cabt see the clock, switch the bright switch on and you can! I recon thats what it was designed for too.

The bright switch is great!

Try it out online!

The bright switch was installed by fuji heavy industries for when they use the scooby in the next james bond movie....it is designed to vapourise unwanted females sitting in the passenger seat when depressed.....................shame it wasn't fitted as a standard item!

Question

Pete, referring to your post about heated wing mirrors, do all years have this and if so could you explain how you did this?

Cheers

Apparently only Imprezas made in the second half of the month of March 2000 and 5-door had the wiring included as standard, UK models only and for some reason the pink mica, silver and green missed out, together with any 'Special Editions'

FUJI had hired an apprentice who was a little slow (part of the rehabilitaion scheme in Japan) and that was the 2 week period he worked on the dashboard wiring loom - the error only came to light when each car started costing FUJI 200Yen MORE to manufacture!!!

Hope this helps?

Can't beat the brightness switch in those foggy scottish mornings when you wonder if you're late for work yet....turn the brightness switch and it confirms you're late...

Seriously, used it once and I reckon it must get foggy alot in Japan as I hate to admit it was handy and ... no, I don't wear a watch.

Cheers Pete, no luck for me then being a 99 and green! Bit of a shame as the brightness switch is a long standing joke at my work and if I could have found a better use for it I might not get so many comments about it!!
