After debating long and hard about whether to buy a new or used Impreza I have finally taken the plunge.

Sounds like a good deal, but did you know motorpoint.co.uk (Derby) have had or have them in stock for between £17 and 18K?

Yes well there are a few NON Scooby dealers out there i looked into this ,
But add the alarm , the locking nuts, the 3 YEAR NO problem warranty, the fact that you will not get an import warranty claim passed until the supplying dealer in Holland or wherever has seen the problem parts , and even then its a battle with them , and the resale value is 10% lower + the Insurance is 20% higher you are actually saving £500 after 2 years with a lot more aggrevations if you have a problem ?

Orville,

Sounds like a top deal. It's not worth arranging an import yourself at that price.

Visual,

Insuring an EU import is exactly the same as insuring a UK car. My insurance actually went down when moving from a UK MY1997 to a EU MY2000 I didn't question this too much - I guess it was to do with the CAT1 Alarm on the later car.

The 10% premium for a UK dealer supplied car looks about right for a car within warranty. I would have thought that once the cars are over three years old this premium would be reduced substantially.

Cheers,

Ian.

Errr

If you can wait 7 months, you can get one for £16,050 from Holland. This includes all costs apart from the fact that it only has a one year warranty. Given the view on the value of warranties, why not go this way.

Apparantly, you can go via Belgium and get a three year warranty, but I've not done it.

The insurance, via Tescos, is the same as for a UK model.

Whoops, meant to add that this includes Blue/Black Mica paint but with a discount of ~ £100 for the bucket seats rather than the "sports" seats.

Insurance is exactly the same with all the compaiies I have called. The Subaru warrentee give FULL pan-European cover, and so long as you ask your local dealer to register the car with Subaru UK, all problems will be dealt with in the same manner as a UK sourced car. I don'y mind my cars USED value being 10% less because I'm saving 20% on the NEW price.

I've bought a UK car before and have learned by my mistake. EU Imports depreciate less and cost less to buy. A year old import will probably sell easily for £15k (loss of £2k) whereas a UK car may get £17k (loss of $4.5k).

UK prices are still the most expensive in Europe because we are the only mugs willig to pay them.

Well done Orville!!

We did exactly the same thing and ordered the same car... in the same top colour

....Its amazing how patient you can be when you're saving that much money ....

We will both get an 02.. with some quite cool changes we are told.

Best of all..... your lovely new car gets checked, valeted and prepared...... HERE!!!!

(we do all logistics, deliveries and technical for Jamjar's Saab and Subaru in the UK.... So you can imagine the treatment it will get)

Cheers

Orville, I nearly ordered a WRX from Jamjar, but in the end I ordered a 2002 WRX from Keyring Cars for £15705 including WR Blue Paint, 3 year warranty and buckets seats (no alarm).

You say in your first post that bucket seats are a no cost option from Jamjar, I saved approx. £250 by having bucket seats.

The price for the 2002 models hasn't yet been released so the final price you pay could increase (as could mine).

Cheers

Edward.
