Replace my Sport with a Turbo

Hi, All
I am thinking of replacing my 97R Sport for a Turbo.
I've had a some advise already from my brother-in-law.
He advises : a UK model, mileage sub 70k, No MODS,
post MY96
Although I think sound advice from an experienced mechanic, might not have such an insight as some of you guys.
Anybody, please put in your views.
I do not want a 93K plate 280bhp, all the gimmicks,and the turbo
packs in 2 miles down the road.

i agree with ur bro in law, UK with FSSH is ur best bet, safest option if there are no mods on it too, u then have a virgin canvas... also the Uk is more tolerant of poor fuel... and before I get shot down, yes the imports are better specced and faster, but Uk is no slouch in the real world all IMHO

Just sold my 97R Sport too
Looking for MY01 UK turbo, sub 30k miles, FSSH etc.
Few and far between at the right price though, so may have to settle for a Civic Type-R instead

Foot tapper
Sound advice, and depending on what you can spend I/d go for:-
1) 99MY 218ps, 4 pot Sti brakes came standard, phase 2 engine etc
2) 98MY white dials / Forester dashboard
3) 97MY Upgraded engine and new headlight shape
(Lots more changes above - see the SIDC FAQ section or Impreza Web)
If you can stretch to a 99MY with FsSH and can the Subaru dealer will sell you a 'proper' Subaru warranty, that would be your best bet.

DJ ive just had an email from a guy who has an MY01 for sale.
Too rich for me, but here are the specs :
MY01, Euro import (full spec, Cat1 alarm etc...)
Black (well Blue/Black Mica)
Prodrive UK300 headlight conversion
Prodrive backbox
18" Technomagnesio Detroit F1s with Toyo Proxes
Defi carbon 3 gauge pod with funky playback/record mode
Uprated anti roll bar and solid drop links
18500 miles, FSSH
Tip top condition, it's in Top Marques for 17,250
If you want, ill ask him to get in contact.
