I am thinking about getting one and have 24hours to convince my self, as it's sitting in the dealer. Firstly
are there only 750 being made,
how many have you seen left,
are they going for full retail,
has anyone who has gone from standared 01wrx got any usefull opinions
drove one for a day 6 months ago wasn't completely convinced but im sure it would grow on me, anyway its faster that's all that matters i suppose.
Oh are the front pads REALLY £240 i thought £100 for the WRX was expensive
If you come here please post something usefull no matter what.
cue the clever replies

i have seen a few now at various meets/ shows etc (but not many on the road curiously) and i have to say the looks just havent grown on me.
they are an ugly car, despite headlight kits, usually painted in loud blue, with a big spoiler on the back.
if i HAD to have another scooby, i would get a P1/22b/sti 5 or 6.
but then, i am from the darkside
try an evo 6 or 7 first, preferably with a straight through exhaust. u might just like it
with rumours of changes to the bugeye all the time, i'd also be worried about residuals in the not too distant future.
you asked for opinions, and you may not like mine, but at least ive replied

I *think* there were 'only' 750 of the Prodrive MY01 WRX STI type UK (STI7 in old speak) made. However, the new MY(STI8ish) will be released soon, there will be some small revisions(some believe a mild facelift coming?).
I have to believe it's not a worthwhile change from a MY01 WRX (had one and didn't like it), far more differences than just 40 extra BHP.
If you've driven one already and it didn't convince you though, maybe you should wait for the Paris motorshow next month - just to see what the MY02 holds in store. Worst case scenario you have to wait till early next year - but then you'll get the new model - it's probable that there will be another 'Prodrive' version.

Had mine 2 weeks. I drove it and bought it in 24hours. It is a much better car than my old UK300/PPP in every way.
If you keep waiting for the next MY to come out you will never buy a car. If you wait for the MY03, what happens when the MY04 comes out??.
Downsides are that the insurance is higher and mpg lower. Upsides are everything else. Just buy it you know you want to
And if you need more power the PPP will be along eventually.....

Carolyn and I had a modded MY01 WRX each.
We now have an STi7 each.
I wouldn't go back. The STi walks over the old car - IMHO.
Nuff said.
But, it's your money.......

Just to add to this, I've owned a MY98, RB5 PPP and now an STI UK.
The STI IMHO is the best scooby I've owned, and it gets better the more miles I add to it.
Build quality is far better than older models, but people have their own opinion of the STI and are entitled to it.
On the facelift side I do not think the STI will be touched, only the WRX's for next year, but as someone has said if your waiting for the next best model then you'll never buy one.
Basically it's down to you not anyone else, so if you like it buy it, if you don't then your missing out
Cheers,
Rob.

To drive its a much better car, and if you are in Devon then you have some of the best roads to do an STi justice. The Prodrive style IMHO is just about worth it over a standard STi type UK especially if you have already had a MY01 WRX due to their being very little difference visually between them. At least with the P stlye you stand out a bit more.
If you can afford it (a bare in mind that it does about 23 MPG, and insurance will be higher, accessories are more expensive (£250 for Stainless steel entry guards!?!?)) then go for it. You wont regret it.

Just changed to STI7 from WRX Wagon. The performance difference is like stepping up from a Golf GTI to a WRX, it feels, and is, much quicker especially pulling 40-45mph in 4th, the acceleration is excellent.
Only done two tanks so far, filling up before needle hits bottom, and returning 220 miles on £32(as good as the WRX). This is a mixture of Motorway, A\B road and town driving. Must admit have driven more sensibly in the STI7, slowing down for potholes etc.
On my third tank now, needle just below 3\4 mark, done 90 miles.
Paid an extra £13 for 8 months to insure. Laughing

I enjoyed my old STI, but IMHO you need to budget for the PPP. My wifes got more life at 6.00am in the morning than the STI below 4000 rpm .
Most of the 750 Prodrive cars have been sold. My local dealer couldnt get hold of nay more last month, so it only dealers that ordered them for stock earlier on and havnt sold them have them now as far as I'm aware.
Best of the 7 scoobies Ive owned

Love my STi7, and I had a heavily modded WRX before, the more miles you do, the more they loosen up.
Forget about the next model, everything in life evolves, and like it or not, but 01/02's make the old shape look dated

SASMAN,
Go on get one, Superb car! I had a my01, slight mods, the STi is way better, the twisty Manx roads are an absolute blast in the STi.
Oh, if you can chose the colour go for a Blue/Black, THE best colour, no questions.
The my01 with 26K on the clock had quite a turn of speed, can't wait for the STi to get that loose.

Ordered an STI 7 a couple of weeks ago, wanted a prodrive but was told they had all gone and that there were only 8 Standard STIs in the country of the current batch.
The kit to turn a standard car to a prodrive car comes to £3000, £1000 more than the cost of a prodrive car and does not include the blue dials, but is identical in all other respects.

Oh well had to do it, 1 Sept. Another blue one, seen them in black which is nice but blue is so striking, now i am going to have to put up with "EVERYONE" asking me why i bought a spoiler and gold wheels for my WRX. There are others left JET, i know of 3 and the one in NI will ship it over if you prefer the look, isn't it only £1500 extra for the prodrive?, Pmather yes the roads are great here thats the main reason i moved . Are you thinking about getting one Roger t cat?. Has anyone noticed how many Subaru dealers are dissapearing now the bubble has burst somewhat.
Off to read the 7 page PPP thread now and have a moan at the end of it .oh thanks for opinions.

The other day there were 45 P Style STi's left at dealers in
the UK, however most of these are possibly sold orders. I know
my local dealer in Grantham still has 1 left cos he tried to get
me into it!! But £500.00 discount just isn't enough for a tight
b*****d like me!!
