Cool

I am sure I will get corrected but the Turbo impreza was not released in the UK until 1993 and was never called a WRX, WRX was the name used in Japan ands other southern continents for the 2ltr Turbo Impreza in the UK it was refered to as a 2000 GT or impreza Turbo. Going by your original post it sound like the car might be an import from either Japan or Australia etc, not sure if this help much but I also am not an expert.

Cheers

Steve

New Scoobie Fan,

The Report To Moderator link is there to report threads that members feel are not appropriate for whatever reason.

It is not there to self publicise your own thread.

If somebody can help they will post, if not, they won't.

Thank you.

Chris.

To save New Scooby Fan from having his ***** ripped off by the mods:

92WRX is probably a Jap import and will have 240ps (or 236BHP) as standard (or it would have when the engine was a bit newer...)
It should also have aircon, sports bucket seats, low level spoiler, alu bonnet, electric windows and mirrors bla bla bla. some jap radio that can't pick up anything until you get an RF converter. If the SVA test has been (thats the test that all imported cars are put through by the government) done then it will have a rear foglight hanging off it somewhere....

You should expect to pay 6K if it is in REALLY GOOD condition.

There maybe some guages above the radio, boost, volts and cabin temp, they were an option.

If the car is standard may want to do the following mod, not necessarily in this order:

Induction Kit or panel filter......30 - 100 quid
Exhaust.... depends on how good you want it, but say 500 quid.
Early WRX ECU's go loopy, so you'll need to change that at some point, you can get a second hand one for 100 quid, or you can spend 500quid and get possumlink ECU's and Lamba sensors etc....

You will now have a 250BHP car, for 7K..... nice.

That should help a bit, I'm gonna go back to work now

Edited to say UK models of the same time had 208bhp as standard, but were set to run on crappy UK fuel.

New scoobie

That's ok. Not even the muppets in the muppet forum have thought of doing that

Not sure where to find the details you need, other than the SIDC FAQ(check out the model details in section 2.2).

Also make sure you can afford to run the car, its a seriously expensive car to run. Insurance will be on average a 1000 quid, tyres 400 quid, 20-22Mpg of super unleaded and servcing every 7500 miles.

You are highly unlikely to get an aussie WRX in the UK so 92/93/94/95/96/97/98/99/00 WRX or STI were all JDM (Japanese domestic cars ie. grey import over here). All standard turbo other cars 93-00 were UK or european spec ie 208bhp upto 98 and 99/00 were 215bhp. The prodrive performance pack only available on the UK turbos took it to abotu 240bhp.

If you are looking at a WRX then :

All MY92/93 WRXs (all 4 doors) had 240bhp

MY94WRX 5 door had 220bhp
MY94WRX 4 door had 240bhp
MY94STI 4/5 door had 250bhp

Isnt actually bhp its PS but didnt want to complicate it further as they are pretty close.

Its all in the FAQ section 2.1.1

cheers

That was a whole lot of help. You last three have been the best comrades so far.

I appreciate it all and must add that you have cleared up quite a bit of confusion.

Cheers again

It does actually say all that in FAQ but you also have to run Jap imports on super unleaded, insurance will normally be higher, your stereo wont be compatable in most cases if its just come into the country, your going to need an alarm and possably a tracking system, subaru uk wont help you one bit, ie you wont get anything from them at all, services 6 months or 7.5k whichever comes first, costs vary, minor cost between 90-120, major cost 350-500 quid.
you have to work out that if the car is 10yrs old its last service should have been 150k service (they work out at every 7.5 one is cheap, the 15k is cheap, 30k and 45k are expensive) so it should have just had a 30k service, ie all diff oils, brake and clutch oils, engine oil etc should have been changed (cost around 350quid).

cheers tony, sorry more appropriate ID now being used, but still one in the same person

I appreciated what you told me about the service costs.

Do u think its plausable to go to a normal garage for a service, is a performance or subaru garage better?

Personally I wouldnt let a non scooby specialist loose on my car as the engines are very sensitive to oil and very expensive to rebuild and also oil wise how much you put in ie not overfilling and using correct parts/filters. Tonys advise on running on super/optimax is good advise but I was told the older engines are not as on the edge as the later engines. Having said that I wouldnt run a UK on 95 RON either and I didnt, why buy a performance car and lose bhp for the sake of a few quid a fill up .

I am sure someone will post a good specialist in the London area for you.

Cheers

ChrisP
