Having gone down to put some oil in the STi (see current thread) I've managed to drop the filler cap into the engine bay.
D'Oh!!!
Quickie check... unlikely to do harm driving it gently (but at working temperature/pressure)to my dealer?????
TIA,
Phil

you trust yourself topping the thing up with oil but you have to get the dealer to retrieve your filler cap. hahahahahhahaahha
sorry
let the thing cool down so you don't burn yourself,
roll up those white cuffs and get in there.
get a stick or something to hook / flick it out if you can't reach it.

It's probably lying on the undertray. Jack the front up, and about four or five bolts hold the tray on, whip them off and the tray will drop down at the front (held on by a couple of clips at the back) and you'll find the cap.
If you don't want to do that, put a freezer bag over the filler, held on with an elastic band, and that'll get you down to the dealer without making a mess

Gee, thanks Fuzz
Unfortunately, flicking it out put it under the engine, and I can't see to get at it (and have no possibility of a ramp). Question is, is pressure generated up the oil filler line, or is it just a question of keeping things clean??
TIA

Thanks, Dave, answered my supplementary question while I was responding to Fuzz. Oil filler cap didn't look like a pressure-resistant item, so felt it was likely to be a case of keeping clean rather than keeping the lid on the volcano!!

You will only get pressure in the filler when piston rings are shot and you get ring blowby and positive crankcase pressure - this shouldn't apply! More of a mess problem, and placcy bag should stop that

Er, yes Dave......
Fluffed a second to third the other day Some smoke, and a very warm clutch !!! Still, at 4000 miles the pistons shouldn't be shot yet, notwithstanding!!
Ciao,
Phil

This is turning into scoobynet blue peter.
The elastic band would also expand, and thus snap. Better to use one of those cable tie things. Some kind of non lint rag would be better..

LOL @ Neil - I'll check whether it's blue when I go to bed tonight!
Couple of Miles to Dealer in morning (School Holiday) rush. Kitchen bag-tie and cuff of old Cotton Shirt it is, then, and should survive!! Got an 0900 appointment, so unwilling to fiddle around in unfamiliar surroundings under time pressure, when a dealer can whip up the ramp and get it out in under 30 secs! And as this dealer has sold me three Imprezas and has £1995-worth of imminent business courtesy of Mr Prodrive, I'm sure he'll oblige....
Thanks all!

Get them to fit a new engine at the same time on the basis mine is not using oil-you know what fun it is winding up Lancaster. They need to be nice to us given what we spend and now the missus has decided to buy a DB7 they better be even nicer
