sti7???

7 refers to the version number, eg the STi 7 is the 7th version of the STi model, same as the Mitsubishi evo5, evo6 and evo7. Each time the car is modified by the manufacturer or in this case STi, its given a new version number.

Except that the STi 7 is a misnomer because Subaru don't call it that - it's just that we do to differentiate it from the previous STis. Also, technically, it should probably be called the STi 8....

As the last of the classic STI's was the 6, the STI MY01 would have been the 7 and the MY02 (which the UK's are) could be called the 8. However, there is no such thing as an STI7 or 8 as per Subaru / STI. It is a Brit and Aussie thing, nothing at all to do with the vehicle version.

The new version "7" STIs official name is, for the MY01, "New age MY01 STI" and for the MY02, "New age MY02 STI." If Subaru would have kept the old tag, the MY02 STI would have been the version 8.

Mixster,
Don't pay too much attention to Dave, none of us do Even the numerically challenged KenG, Wrexy or I
Dave is just grumpy because he just found out that his wife (Carolyn T-S) owns his STi as well as her own STi and she wants a 911, so Dave is soon to be carless
