Red face

I have just noticed that there are 4 self tapping screws sticking out from the floorpan of my car. I can only assume that when the dealer fitted the CD changer under the passenger seat, this was their chosen method of securing it. Does this sound normal, and do you think I should worry about it? It does look a bit odd...

Charlie.

to be fair i did ask them to put it under the seat as i didn't want it cluttering up the boot, but i would have thought that they could have at least chosen a screw which was an appropriate length - these stick out about 15mm

How would you expect them to fasten a CD changer?

Mine's fitted in the same way. Don't worry about it. There's nothing essential under there like brake lines to worry about.

I painted over the screws and covered 'em in gunk for good measure.

I used to fit loads with Velco.
Did a perfect job and didn't have to asbsorb shocks thrown to it through the floor pan.

On a MY99 / MY00 there is actually enough room under the front passenger seat to mount a 6 disc changer to the bottom of the seat. Very neet, can't be seen and very easy to get to to change the CD's.

You could cut and file the screws off or replace them with rivets.
I'd take it back to them and get them to tidy it up and put a bit of underseal on it.
Cheers.

I think I'll go with velcro when I next buy a new car... although driving will probably have been made illegal by that time.
