I know what it looks like but thats about it. My mate has been given an XT 1.8 Turbo 4WD coupe by his old auntie and was thinking of putting it on a track. Can anyone give me any info about performance, how it handles, and if there are any cheap mods that can be done to make it better. Really we want to know if it will get shown up by a standard Golf GTi or similar to save embarrassment.

Or should he take it to the local breakers yard?

Y not keep it original if it is in good condition? These cars are rare.
I think the power is abt 136ps & the car is based on the Leone, & that's abt it.

Also used by Tom Hank's character's girlfriend in the film Big. You get to see the car towards the end of the film when he about to become small again.

It takes a while for The Cannonball Run to get going because we have to introduce everybody first and it’s quite an eclectic bunch. We start with two shapely gals in a Lamborghini. (Adrienne Barbeau & Tara Buckman) They have four (snicker) secret weapons to get out of speeding tickets.
Next we have the Sheik (Jamie Farr) a "mad camel jockey" in a souped up Rolls Royce. He plans to buy his way to victory if necessary. There’s also a guy who thinks he’s 007 and even looks like Roger Moore (Roger Moore). He even drives a tricked out Astin Martin complete with spy gizmos.

The Japanese have an entry too. A rocket propelled Subaru driven by Japan’s premiere racecar driver (Jackie Chan).
In the closing credits, Jackie's character is called 1st Subaru Driver

To put all of u guys out of misery, Jackie Chan drove a Mitsubishi Starion in the Cannonball Run.
Up until recently, all the cars driven by him in his films are Mitsubishis, they even have a 'Jackie Chan Cup' support race in the Macau GP weekend & it ran for several years in the 80's.
Mitsubishi did complain at one stage that they had to write off many cars in his films, in Armour of God, many new Pajeros & a concept car were written off.

Just checked the video AGAIN .

The version I have is called

"THE CANNONBALL RUN"

Staring :

Burt Reynolds
Roger Moore
Dom deLuise
Sammy David Jnr
Dean Martin
Farrah Fawcett
Bianca Jagger

and I quote from the back of the sleeve :
Japanese racing drivr (Jackie Chan) behind the wheel of the hottest, fully-computerised SUBARU sports car.
The version I have was a Cinema Club version CC1083 VHS and had a PG certificate, PAL and is 95 mins long. The car in the video was black coupe and had SUBARU AWD written on the sides.

He drove the starion in the sequel

If it was a Subaru, then it cannot be a XT cos the XT came out in 85/86, & those cannonball run films are early 80's.

I reckon it's actually the 1.8 3 door hatchback Subaru with selectable 4wd that was available in the UK 1980-83 ish.

It was a coupe'ish shape but was the range before the L series Saloon, estate, XT and coupe (different to the XT) that came afterwards

I haven't seen the film for years but am almost 100% certain it was this model Subaru - it definitely wasn't a Mitsubishi and if it was 3 doors not 5, it must have been the hatch. And no, it wasn't a Justy !

Dont break it I'll have it! Had one a while ago and put RX turbo suspension on it to replace the air suspension crap and turned boost up a bit. Mate of mine did no end to his L-series Turbo Coupe which is same engine and it went like stink. Still have an RX as does my brother and a mate of mine too. They are bloody great fun cars but can't be bothered to get them back on the road at the mo, all three are just sitting rotting. Spend all money on the Impreza nowadays.

It was a Starion in Cannonball Run not an XT.

Starion was in the Cannonball Run 2 Cannonball Run 2 Cannonball Run 2 Cannonball Run 2 Cannonball Run 2 Cannonball Run 2 Cannonball Run 2 Cannonball Run 2 Cannonball Run 2 Cannonball Run 2 Cannonball Run 2 Cannonball Run 2 Cannonball Run 2 Cannonball Run 2 Cannonball Run 2 Cannonball Run 2 Cannonball Run 2 Cannonball Run 2 Cannonball Run 2 Cannonball Run 2 Cannonball Run 2

It was a black Subaru AWD in the original (original meaning the first one of the series ) Cannonball Run. Looking at picture on the first page it wasnt a XT turbo either. It was a hatchback that had a rocket that fired.

How do I know all these things cause I sat down yesterday with my remote control and flicked through the film . If you dont believe me wait till its repeated on TV or rent it .

Cheers
