'Buyer's Profile' features a MY00. The owner says he "...can cope with the 28mpg fuel economy." If everywhere I went was in 5th gear at 3000 revs I could cope with that too!

Just got my MY99 with PPP. Exclusively using Optimax at the moment.
On my daily commute (round tip of 152 miles), I'm averaging 27mpg.
This is a combination of twisty B-roads (for the smile factor), single carriageway and motorway.
I reckon that's pretty good.
Andy.

Posted this before but did a bit of an anorak on this one and kept fuel receipts for 10k miles (for my my99 with few subtle mods)........
Mixed driving, mostly country roads with daily commute into Edinburgh but not very much motorway.
16.7mpg on SUL/Optimax.....!
And yes, the car's running fine!!

I did mostly motorways (small amount of town driving) yesterday and raked up 172 miles, filled up this morning and put 32 litres in!
That is with a MY01, on the motorways I was keeping up with the flow of the traffic for the most time and maintained a fairly constant speed.

Surely some people's calculators are not working properly? I can accept +/- a few mpg for different driving styles, but I can't see how some people can be averaging 27/28 mpg. I was lucky to get that out of my old 1.8 Mondeo (and yes, it was better to drive than a Vectra!)

As I said, steady 3000rpm in 5th (ie motorway cruising) = at least late 20's mpg. However, my commute is mainly B roads, average 22mpg.
To clarify, my original point was not intended to relate to a surprise that 28mpg could be achieved, rather to surprise at the idea that it could be 'coped' with - I should bloody well hope it could be as it sounds very good! (but not impossible)

Normally I get ~200miles per fill up.
I stick a trailer on the back of a the car, complete with fully fueled up motorbike, a boot full of tools, and a back seat full of clothes etc, and now Im getting nearly 275miles between fill ups.
So if you want better fuel economy, stick a trailer on the back of ur car
