I'm sure This has been discussed b4 but I really P's me off.
I cant understand y when there is the smallest patch of Mist from the local park that lasts for about twenty yards at most, everyone seems to think they need their Fog lights on, then forget to turn them off and drive round for the next 3 weeks with their rear fog on.
Why do people insist on Driving along at night within the Front Fog lights on? (poser Lights), All they manage to do is blind oncoming traffic, now add all the peps who have adjustable headlights and think that setting them to high level is a good idea. I seem to spend half the night waiting for my eyes to adjust from the glare from halogen poser lights.
Am just being a grouch????

Although it's made "cool" by car mags insisting on photgraphing cars with fog lights on. Hell, even the new ford galaxy advert shows the car/minibus with them switched on!

Agree with you on the rear fogs - bloody annoying and if you try to indicate to the other driver that they have left them on, they will be completely oblivious. Tried it the other weekend, but the woman just looked at me like I was off another planet. Which is very true - I come from planet Earth - God only knows what planet she was from
Front fogs - never really had any problem with being dazzled by them - when I bought a Scoob from a dealer some years ago he even said that they weren't too bright to be used at night.

Well using the front and rear forgs when not approiate is an offence, suprised the police don't jump all over this one (fine and points are a possibility).
I hate rear fogs being left on, front ones are annoying IMHO.
There is a worrying "trend" near me at the moment to drive around with side lights on and fogs at night.
A had a police car sat behind me one night and a car went past "lit" up like this at 23:00 a few weeks back, did they do anything? Well, yes they did. I got pulled over for sounding like I was going too fast (again)!
There seems to be a vendetta against me at the moment but that is a different story...

What's the point of rear fogs? IMO, they just mask the brake lights which makes their use dangerous. Most people seem to put them on at the slightest hint of mist when their car is easily visible. In thick fog, people should be driving at a speed that they can stop before hitting anything anyway. So what's the point?

94 You MUST NOT
use any lights in a way which would dazzle or cause discomfort to other road users
use front or rear fog lights unless visibility is seriously reduced. You MUST switch them off when visibility improves to avoid dazzling other road users.
Law RVLR reg 27
201 You MUST use headlights when visibility is seriously reduced, generally when you cannot see for more than 100 metres (328 feet). You may also use front or rear fog lights but you MUST switch them off when visibility improves (see Rule 211).

Following a car on the motorway who had his fogs on in good visibility.
Cop car overtook us, the one with the black readout screen and red text on the back that flashes "STOP". He pulled in front of the offender and the message changed to "Fog lights OFF"
I want one of them...

H7 - you're kidding right ?
You've genuinely never been in fog/very heavy rain/snow so thick you cant see normal rear lights until you're about 10ft away ?
Rear fogs = useful.
Front fogs = next to useless.
Both should be turned off unless visibilty is seriously reduced.

.. YES!!.. what is it with these loons running around with excessive light appendages!! We... er I mean they.. are obviously making up for inadequacies in other areas ... I wouldn't endorse that behaviour m'lud

Question is, someone on this board must have a good idea to combat the pain in the **** idiots who do this?

Front fogs are for fog, and they DO actually work.
A few years (12) back my Girlfriend was drinving us into the country and had to turn back cos visability was sooo bad away from streetlights. Got in my car (An Escort!) and put the fogs on for the narrow lanes and suddenly could see both sides of the road (10ft wide!).
However, that is what they are supposed to be used for, and I get annoyed by muppets who treat them like driving lights.
If they were Pukka DL's they would not be wired up to come on with the sidelights.

I treat those W@nkers who drive around with their frount fogs on like those who drive with high beam on. Its annoying and yes they might not be as bright as high beams but they still dazzle you so I flash my High Beams, but it feels pointless as everyone seems to have them on nowadays.

Yeah, that show's 'em who's got the biggest doesn't it? *sigh*
Front fogs: annoying but not dangerous, blinding, distracting or dazzling as they're aimed low and wide
Cibies/PIAAs/Headlights: straight into someone's eyes. At night this causes night blindness. So that's safe then.
So go ahead, cause an accident for someone being a bit of an ****. We drive imprezas so we must be better.
Sorry, having a bad day and this strikes me as snobbery / "mine's bigger than yours" now.
