Spend £120 on fuel in 4 days and I don't feel like I've really been anywhere!! I'm beginning to worry that I underestimated the costs!!

I agree petrol costs are staggering. I even avoid filling the tank as it seems worse every time - you can just see the others in the petrol station saying 'I bet that's thirsty'.

I'm going to start frequenting petrol stations with nice looking female staff. I'll be there so often I'll be on first name terms within a week, a few drinks within a fortnight and should have bedded them within a month At least that way I feel I've really got something for my money

Which is why I cancelled the order for the Scoob and bought the Skoda.

I read up lots, especially on here, about the costs of running one. The figures were frightening (well, to me anyway). I worked out, based on my mileage (about 50-60k a year) that the scoob was going to cost me about £11-12000 per year, just to run, not counting depreciation (massive at those miles) or buying it.

Cool

Had my car from new and over the first two years it worked out at roughly £700 a month (thats including depreciation and interest on the loan). After feeling slightly gutted for a while (my mortgage isn't much more) I decided it had to go.

The car was good but it wasn't that good and as I only really drove it to work and back I replaced it with a Renault Clio 1.2 16 valve. The clio came with a years free insurance and has 18000 mile service intervals. Never managed to get the trip computer to read less than 40 MPG around town yet. Trip computer also tells me that my average speed to work and back is 13 MPH so in real world driving it isn't any slower than my Impreza and it has the added bonus of the fact that I park it anywhere and don't spend the whole night worrying about it.

Red face

Did these sums recently for an article on car costs for the work's quarterly rag mag and the 'real' cost of running my slightly modded MY99 over 10,000 miles, works out at REAL cost of 64.87p per mile (on Superunleaded at an average of 77.9p per litre). This figure includes insurance at £800, servicing (only a 15k service at a main dealer), 8 tyres and other consumables (brake pads etc) but no unscheduled repairs, and EXCLUDES depreciation.

Makes you think huh????
