0-60/ mid range torque or Top speed
#2
Does the top speed of the car that important anymore?
In a era of cameras and speed traps I wonder if anyone would dare go to the top speed of their car except track days.
I would prefer 0-60 times and mid range torque than top speed anyday.
Any car today can do over 100mph its just getting there.
I mean I've had my scoob for more than 8 months but never have I done the top speed
You would be mad on public roads.
I'm sick of people saying :
"Whats top speed?
About approx 145mph
oh! my top speed of my car is faster than your scoob!"

no one's ever asked me the top speed of my car, they ask bhp and how quick it is.
actually people don't ask those questions as much as who the hell is Fosters (stickers on rear windows)?
I agree, top speed, Schmop speed, who cares!

I regularly get aske what the top speed of my car is, but normally try to bring the conversation back away from it, clock reads 148, but who knows what the actual speed is... My personal preferance is 30-100 as that is the range I use most on B-roads. Which should be somehere around 12.5 sec I think, not exactly a figures used in magazines, so means sod all to most people
I agree with Jay on the bhp/ton bit

Don't give a stuff about top speed (as long as its more than 100 mph (for use abroad of course).
Have loads of chats about BHP but for me the most important thing is 0-60 and how well it goes round bends.
Sitting on m-ways doing 120 ish bores me. Doing 50 on nice tight moore or country lane is much more fun.

Only ignorant... (Can I call them drivers ? ) ask for the top speed of a car first...
Most car fans will ask about behaviour, acceleration, grip, bhp, torque, fun !!! If the first question is about top speed, RUN AWAY !!! The next question is going to be: How about consumption ? AAARRRGGGHHH !!! I DON'T WANT TO KNOW; GOT IT PUNK ?
How's that for a reply ?
Cheers

We all know that over a tonne and it's goodbye license, so it's only ***** that ask about top speeds and they are the ones too stupid to realise you shouldn't be doing it in a 30 limit.
It's that shove in the back acceleration that we all love so much
Feel better now....

"does it have one of those little things you hang you jacket on?"
I fully agree that top speed is no real biggy, as has already been said, things like 30-80, etc. are a much better indication of how quick a car is in real driving situations
Fosters > "I agree, top speed, Schmop speed, who cares!" *lmao*

Top speed is generally unimportant, although an indicator of power I suppose. I must admist i've tested top speed b4 out of interest, and got the car off the clock (on a quiet dual carriageway)might I add.
0-60 is important, but I think 0-100 is a much better indicator - wheelspin/bogging down or whatever at the start have less of a bearing than they do on 0-60s.
So people - what are your best 0-100 times. To get you started i've only timed it in our Astra Gsi - and that was just over 18secs. Done 0-120 in a P1, but too busy watching for rev limiter and the road to time it - i'd be interested to know the P1 time.

I can get under 18 second in my MY98 (going off the speedo). It doesn't sound that impressive does it?but that is actually its 0-100-0 time.
This is helped by my AP brakes which can stop the car from an indicated 100mph in 3.6 seconds which I think is pretty impressive.
