I nearly bricked it the other day at the thought of running out of petrol in my scooby MY99 on the way home from work, so much so that I filled up with a tenner of cheapo petrol. The needle was on the black line. Anyway, just now I went out to fill up again on the black line but this time my fuel warning light came on. So am I to draw from this that the needle being on the black line isnt a huge problem and that I should only get worried when the light comes on.

What I'm really asking is how much miles I can expect from when the light comes on.

LOL, when you said cheapo petrol I assumed you meant standard unleaded. I think your car will cope fine on a tenner of super unleaded, even if it usually gets Optimax

Its weird, my car is the same on super unleaded as it is on unleaded, the only thing which makes a difference is optimax, weird!

Talking

1.8 gallons - should be safe for 35-40 miles, and of course you always go slower when that light comes on! Been there many times!

thats not bad, quite handy actually.

I usually start looking for a Shell garage when i'm under the quarter marker, but now I know I'm ok until the light comes on (you understand that I never even knew they WAS a light until today) then I can look for longer or wait until I get back to Enfield (Which used to have the added advantage of a Subaru Dealership too, the ultimate filling station me thinks)

Cool

I start looking for petrol on the quarter mark as it is always pot luck as to how much is in there

No warning light for me, I have a lightweight WRX, these extra bits like fuel warning lights are so needless and heavy LOL

yes, I can imagine the weight of a bulb must affect your 1/4 mile time by billionths

Thumbs up

In my MY99 on Optimax .... the warning light came on and I did 14 miles comfortably.

You do run the risk of dragging some '****' from the tank into the fuel lines when the tank get's this low.

BTW ... could not find a Shell gagrage the other weekend, so put £15 of Esso Super in. What difference compared to Optimax. Optimax makes my 'Scoob' feel mental :-)

According to my owners manual the fuel warning light comes on when my car gets down to (I think) 9 litres of fuel. Obviously, how far you can go on 9 litres of fuel depends on how and where you're driving - I expect you have a rough idea of fuel consumption for your own car.

Of course, your car may be different to mine, check your owners manual to be sure.
