Default Ls rear diff

Gonna be doing oil and dif fluid change on my
v5 classic sti

was told via opie if it’s not limited slip dif I can use the same fluid
as in the gearbox but if it is LS I need a ls oil dose anyone know what
this version v5 classic sti has… it’s still on original 5 speed box

code : ty754vbaaa.

The boxes themselves never use LS oil the diff is a different story. What is your vin number.

Yes Sorry maybe I didn’t explain that to well
I mean if it’s non ls dif I can use the same fluid
in box and dif and if is is then ls in the rear diff and normal
in the box…

my box code is above would you still need the vin ? I can pm it to you
if that makes things easier ?

Your box links, for a WRXSTI V5, to an Applied model code of GC8F4ED??
Which suggests it has a SureTrac rear diff so the same 75W90 as the main box.
It's possible it may have another diff fitted but would only show up using the specific VIN

Comes back to same rear diff 27022AA010 which seems to be listed everywhere as a SureTrac.



Front diff is open.
As before 75w90 all round

Maybe I’m reading to much crap online
but from what I’ve read I’m sure it says
suretrac is lsd ?

I’ve no real knowledge on diffs types so I’m at your mercy

if you say it’s the same fluid all round box & diff I will just
get 5 bottles of motul 75/ 90 for use in both

Suretrac is an LSD but its a cam and pawl system so no friction modifiers needed cause there's no plates as such. They can be very grabby so watch it doesn't catch you out. Whip the rear casing off and have a look in and you will see what it is.
