Default Subaru impreza non turbo...RASPY

Hi,
So I've now got a 2002 subaru impreza bug gx. I've put a decat pipe in the other day but I can't stand the rasp. It was a quite a long middle res, large jap can style back box and the standard equal length headers at the moment. I was wondering if getting a set of unequal length headers will do the trick. It only turns raspy when revving in neutral or at higher rpm (4.5k and over). If the uel headers won't do the trick will a small back box do it but not loose the subaru rumble as looking at going uel headers either way ?

Why fit a decat, why not fit a sports cat. The unequal length manifold will give a deeper sound. Raspy might be the lack of a cat, changing the back pressure.

Do you have a centre resonator pipe?

Went for a decat as my mate had it for sale and looking at turning into a trackday car but still won't it to sound nice. Yes it has the resonator pipe still and a rear muffler however it a massive muffler bigger then the normal ones you see on scoobs more like what you'd see on a supra 😆 so maybe the uel and say a ninja back box would get rid of that rasp or just the uel ?

Is this in the USA?

Maybe that might have something to do with it. Can't see that being allowed on a track with the noise.

Might with work going for a smaller back box.

I do prefer the Prodrive silencers, as give a nice deep rumble. But guessing you like them louder.

I'm uk based, all depends on the limits over the track day really. I like them louder but do think this is a tad too loud at the moment. I don't mind a slightly raspy turbo as it still has that proper subaru sound to it but a na with equal lengths just sound like a civic. I'll see what it sounds like with the uel headers then I can always get a small box after

Ah right its ok, just with you saying muffler tends to be a USA term. Yea unequal manifold will had more of a boxer rumble.

The turbo does reduce exhaust noise, so without a turbo I'd go smaller back box.

Should sort the rasp out.
