i have a mate that put twin headlights and HID lamps in a 2002 impreza when he origionaly got it some years ago and he now has to take the HID's out as they have told him it will no longer pass the MOT, and as he has put higher wattage lamps in (100w H7 and 130w H1) we have wired them through a pair if relays getting power from the battey and the control feed from the origional LH H4 connector, the problem is that dip and main beams have gone in reverse (all 4 lamps on when switched to dip and 2 on in main) also when switching between dip and main the main lamps stop working until they are all switched of and back on again, any ideas guys. Thanks in advance

switch your live feeds to the relay, they are in reverse
It's acceptable to have all 4 on in main beam, but not in dipped beam
Hi Don, thanks for the drawing mate but the car was origionally single headlights and has had aftermarket twin units fitted. Forget the new relay wiring for the moment, the problem is that at the origional H4 headlight connector when the switch is in dip I am getting feed on both dip and main terminals and only one terminal when switched to main so the car is feeding the connector in the wrong order.
Hi Don, the HID's were connected to the pins 2 and 3 on the H4 connector behind the lights but now got 2 relays connected to the H4 behind the LH light, only the 12v pos coil feeds are connected to the H3 and the coil neg is on the battery, is this ok?
the other prob is that when dip is selected both pins 2 and 3 have 12v pos on them and when in main can't remember which but only pin 2 or 3 are live, it used to work the HID's okaybut at the mo the dip/main config is wrong way around,
The relay coils connections for high/low beams need to be wired as follows
Low beams - across pins 3 and 1 of the H4 bulb connector
High beams - pins 3 and 2 of the H4 bulb connector
basically the filaments shown below become the relay coils
Subaru lights switch on the negative side of the bulbs/supply. as per wiring diagram (post #4) above and in linked thread (post #8).
Hi Don, thanks mate got it all sorted but that has put it back to standard with just the 2 dips and 2 mains on at one time not all 4 like he had it when on mains but I can get round that by putting another relay that is controlled by the mains and and links the dip and mains together.

So far so good.
From the other linked thread posted above
To duplicate the layout of the second diagram where both lights stay on AND retain the OEM wiring/bulb socket should you need to revert back, the wire for the low beam bulb that goes to the 3 pin connector below that now fits into the original bulb socket with the Yellow/blue (YL) wire on the main loom side should be cut and earthed separately for each side. (Leaving just two wires connected to the connector below)
Basically the Yellow/blue wire at the bulb holder should be cut and bulb holder side earthed.

As you are using relays just disconnect and earth the low beam relay coil lead that goes to pin1of the H4 bulb connector
