Question

Just pondering the various options on improving headlights.

What make of lamps are used in the Morrette kit?
Presumably with uprated wiring decent wattage bulbs can be used?
Is each lamp individually adjustable?
Do the outside lamps of each pair remain in a dip-beam pattern with the inners being full beam only operated by the dip switch?
What pattern are the inner set. Spot or driving?

Someone enlighten me please.

Just to try and help you out.
The twin head lamp kits are supplied with Cibie lamps, each lamp is adjustable, spot is on the inside so im told.Just ordered my set cost about £300.They also say that I can use up to 80watts of power on the wiring loom supplied.
Will know more when they arrive

Question

Pluto,
Have you fitted your lights yet?
Would be interested in your comments as I am thinking of fitting the Morette kit to my MY00.

I'm quite interested in the Morette kit, but I don't like the 'twin headlight' look. I wonder if I could get the ABS surround chrome-plated, and then stick my clear headlight protectors over the lot. Would it look vaguely like the original lights?

I fitted the Morette Quad. kit to my 99MY awhile ago and the results are excellent. Main beam is superb, dipped is better than the std. lamps even though they are the later design.
Did all the installation and colour coding myself despite the crap, pigeon English instructions. The adjustable level mechanism is really Heath Robinson and I must admit I havent set it up properly yet.
I have used the Morette kit before on a previous car so I knew what to expect.

My Morette kit came without sidelights in the outer (dipped) units but they have a plugged hole. I fitted sidelights into these and now have original plus dipped unit sidelights - very effective!

Cool

Fitted the kit today and it went OK, instructions a bit crap but managed to sort them out eventually after wiring it up wrong on the existing headlight connector so had spots on as well!!!!. Sorted it out. The outer dipped headlamps also have a bulb at the bottom which I presume is a side light although I've not wired them up yet. The head lamp adjusters do seem to work OK although they are only held on with 2 screws instead of the original 3. Need to get down to the garage and get them set up properly now I've figured how to adjust them.
The main beam seems impressive but until I get them set up properly in the next couple of days I won't know how good and then get down the lanes to see for real.
I also replaced the candles in the side lights with some PIAA ones and what a difference that makes to the appearance.
Fairly impressed with the fit of the units after the other comments I was wondering if I'd done the right thing. I'll let you know what I think when I've had them set up.
Cheers for now Adge

Cool

Went for a drive down the lanes and I'm pretty impressed. The dipped beam gives more light at the side to light up the edge of the road, sometimes I used to put my fogs on to define the edge of the road. The main beam is excellent giving the distance which the existing lights never gave. A major improvement on the original lights, I can actually see where I'm going now. Now maybe with some super white bulbs!!!!!
Cheers Adge

Why not go the whole hog and get a H.I.D H4 kit for your twin headlight.
I have seen the kits in the U S and they look the dogs dangles a bit expensive but the light output is unbeliveable the same as Omegas and BMW etc they do have a kit in Demon Tweeks but you pay Demon Tweeks prices !!

PS. This will be my next toy for the car when we can afford it !

Sith,
My mate sprayed them along with the prodrive spoiler £75.00 all in took 4 attempts to match the colour, apparently all sonic/555/new mica/74F are a bu**er to match, but then he does work for BMW.

Huxley,
Wouldn't mind but the £450.00 a bit steep at the moment, still its better than DT's

Just a pondering having read this, assuming that you can put the side light in to the outer light of the Morette, I assume this means the old side light is now doing nothing?

Presumably, you could then get a "silver" indicator light bulb and put it in there and move the indicator wiring up and then loose the indicators from the from spolier?

Just got the cogs turning...

What make of lamps are used in the Morrette kit?
Cibie

Presumably with uprated wiring decent wattage bulbs can be used?
Yes, but beware of higher wattage bulbs on the inner, (main beam only ) lights, as they use H2's which can give problems.

Is each lamp individually adjustable?
Yes.....but you need small hands and PLENTY of patience:

Do the outside lamps of each pair remain in a dip-beam pattern with the inners being full beam only operated by the dip switch?
Outer pair do dip and main, inners are only on on main beam, inners H4, outer H2.

What pattern are the inner set. Spot or driving?
Driving.

OllyK: "Mole's Dad", who used to post on here a lot, had just done this last year when he sadly passed away.

I've fancied having a go myself, but the weather is too cold at the mo:

Alcazar - know what U mean, was bad enough just swapping the main and side light bulbs at the weekend, the thought of trying to do wiring with numb fingers is not a pleasant one!

After knackering the adjusters on my OEM headlights I went the Morrette route and have been extremely pleased with the results in both look and performance.
