Default Rally heritage

Spoiler

hi all, just a thought and I’d like to get the opinion of people in the know but with the rally history that the Subaru has, is there any reason why the Subaru won’t surpass the valuation of the evo, cosworth etc...once the Subaru numbers dwell because of rust worm, getting broken etc...will our cars be even more valuable than its rivals? Evos for 30+ grand? C’mon...there no better rally history than the Subaru is there?

I think because of the amount of Subarus made and there’s LOTS compared to evos, cosworths etc there not as in demand but within time they will be worth just as or even more given there history

Exactly this mate. Remember back in the late 90s they were selling like hot cakes, in terms of performance they were serious bang for buck. Then add to the mix the amount that were being imported new.

They are starting to go up, but then lots of old tat that was once worth hundreds are now going up.
With brexit any import is now subject to import duty from Europe. Classics over the age of 30 years old is subject to 5% but anything newer is hit with 20%. That will probably mean anything already in the country will go up a bit, subject to demand.
My wrx probably bottomed out at about £2500 a few years back but going by prices has probably increased to the £3500-4000 mark, and it’s just a run of the mill model so anything special will go up.

This month's Top Gear magazine has an Impreza in the rally icon feature

Hi Johno, to be honest i think the Ford rally history is greater than the subaru one but dont get me wrong Subaru does has a massive rally history, and regarding subaru prices they are slowly going up in value with the more desirable ones demanding more money ,

I don’t see prices of evos being particularly higher than certain subarus, look at the prices of 22b’s.
The thing with the fords with any real rally heritage is the numbers produced are much lower anyway. Mk1 escort twin cam just over 1200 produced, mk2 rs1800 only 109 produced and escort Cosworth less than 7500 produced so nowhere near the numbers of Impreza produced.

I think the money will be in the limited edition models, particularly the 2 door and rally inspired classics and the newage RA, RA-R and S202/3/4. Also there will be a premium on non-modified examples (not many of those left nowadays!). The hatch is a very capable car but it never really caught the attention like the previous cars and that will impact the future 'nostalgia' value. The later cars also faced stiff competition with other manufacturers out performing them with trick difs, fancy traction systems and more advanced engine/gearbox options. If I was looking to 'invest' in a subaru at the moment, I would probably look for a standard RA-R but they are become an extremely rare find and good fresh ones are already commanding close to £50k landed in the UK so you could question if that's a good investment or not.
