For a MY00 that won't invalidate the warranty or scare the insurers!
Might turn into a 17" wheels vs big exhaust
debate.
Ideas please
Cheers

Not being glib, but driver training(IAM and a driving course, like the wetter the better). AND you can take it with you when you change the car.

Dare I suggest ... modify the driver?

Seriously, you'll get a bigger performance gain from some advanced driver training than you ever will from £500 of tuning mods.

And it's incredibly insurance-friendly - they'll probably give you a reduction for it!

Bros

But if you want to spend money on the car the PS bumpsteer mod and some uprated lighting (if you need it) would be the first things I'd do, together with uprated brake pads. After that it would be 6-pots and discs.

Far too sensible

No contest really - Scoobysport backbox

Then use the £200 for a simple driving course

I too have a SIT MY00 and my only real mod is the Backbox, Don't touch the air filter on your MY00 it will lead to all kinds of problems well so Prodrive have stated.

I'd stick what ever money you have left over in a savings account and eventually invest in the prodrive engine upgrade thus giving you meaty middle range performance.

As for wheels well I quiet fancy some 18inch P1's but the price is putting me off right now.

Also as people have recomended a good drivers course is a serious option, Infact can anyone recomend one, think its time I brush up on my drivers skills.

Maddy.

Hello Steve,

How's it going?

These are the mods from standard on my MY2000 which add up to less than £500 :-

1/ Power White 100w Headlamp Bulbs From ScoobySport - £25

2/ Sony Head Unit (free from Gertjan! )

3/ Infinity Kappa Front Speakers - £100

4/ Alpine 6x9 Rear Speakers - £60

5/ P1 Prodrive Exhaust - £200 Second Hand

6/ Gold Alloys - straight swap with a neighbour for my Silver ones!

7/ MTR Design Front Mudflaps - free from ....Steve Chaps!

I would have spent more on the car if it wasn't for the £555 speeding fine!

Cheers,

Ian E.

Come to Performance Drivers and do half a day on the road and half on the circuit in our impreza turbos. For your £299 I will get more performance out of you than you will get from spending it on your car. Look out for the banner ad at the top of the page.......

Steve,
A pal of mine has just ordered a UK300 Impreza, and will be taking his Power Engineering T75 downpipe, Scoobysport mid section and back box off his current MY99 Impreza, as they will not fit the new car.

All items are 6 months old, and he would probably let you have them for £450 ish.
The D/P alone cost him about £370 with postage, and is extremely well made, the BB and mid cost about £430 with delivery, so about £800 all in when new.

If you are interested give me a ring or E-Mail me and I will pass on his telephone number to you.
He is Oldham based and could probably meet/deliver them for you.

He also has a Blitz induction kit on the car (£180 new price) which will also be for sale, but I don't know how much he wants for that.

Cheers MTR

Care to elaborate Maddy? I've had an ITG panel filter on mine for 9 months and it hasn't blown up yet!

Just don't 'Trev it up'.

There seem to be a number of Impreza's gaining large graphics and drain pipe exhausts.

Guy's - They already look good. Don't ruin them with Halford bolt on's.

I'm happy to say that most people on this thread appear not to be of that thought process.

I'm just waiting for idol boasts of 500BHP and McLaren F1 killing performance........

Cool

Looks like a back box and learning how to
drive properly!
Evidence of the latter may offset increased
costs of the former with my 'touchy' insurance co.

Paul, Have considered that many times
Ian, Not too bad M8,I get free Leeds Utd tickets from my neighbour
Mike, will be in touch SOON
Barry, I have no idea what you could possibly mean . The silver wheels are going
anthracite in the very near future.
MTR,will e-mail u in due course.
Cheers everyone,

Martin seems to have sorted you out a bargain, but can you do the same with the insurers? They don't have any reason to be picky about performance mods do they

If you want to take Ians advice I'll swap those silly silver wheels for you.

"Don't touch the air filter on your MY00 it will lead to all kinds of problems well so Prodrive have stated".
Care to elaborate Maddy? I've had an ITG panel filter on mine for 9 months and it hasn't blown up yet!

Pete T : I spoke with my local scooby dealers whom quoted me that they were unable to add a performance air filter i.e the Ram air filter which they supplied on some MY00 models due to the discovery of a problem with the oil lubricants that coat the filter polluting the air system on MY00 only models.

I then spoke with a consultant based in Bambery Prodrive whom stated that there were problems with the recommended air filter and these have now withdrawn. He also stressed that no Subaru dealership should be supplying the Ram AF to MY00 owners. I asked what the problems were to be specific and he just mentioned that it would degrade the engines and any other performance air filter on a MY00 would very likely lead to all types of problems that would not be covered by the Subaru warranty and this could get very expensive.

He recommended (as you would working for PD) the PPP for pure mid range performance similar to the P1 mid range.

I then asked questions about the performance of a new MY00 in comparison to a old MY97 as my friends SIT seems somewhat more responsive than my MY00, and have been given the facts that from 10k onwards the MY00 starts to loosen up and I will notice a gradual performance increase , apparently the biggest jump is after the 30,000 mile service which is noticeable.

I have also been informed (not from prodrive) that the Impreza's ECU monitors your driving trends hence if you drive at a constant low revs under 3-4k it will map those driving habits giving you a steady performance and a reasonable MPG , however if you drive in the 6 and 7 range (everywhere possible like a bat out of hell) the ECU detects that your not a Sunday driver and your performance consistent however the drawback is it runs much more richer this giving you a MPG like a ford mustang.

I unfortunately did not find out what the trends adjustment period is.

If anyone can clarify the above as I'd be most grateful.

cheers

Maddy

For what ever reason, SUK/Prodrive will not approve an aftermarket air filter/induction kit for MY99/MY00.

The official line is that none meet the filtration criteria. The suspicion is that no manufacturer would give SUK/Prodrive exclusive rights (as Ferrodo have with MY99/00 brake pads)

Fitting an aftermarket filter/IK will (and always has) 'officially' invalidated the warranty, but majority of dealers will turn a blind eye, many will even fit and recommend an IK!!

The problems came from the MAF sensor as fitted to the MY99/MY00 which could get contaminated (film replaced wire?? - I can't remember). That being said many many people have run aftermarket filters and Induction Kits on MY99 and MY00 with no problems.

I ran a pipercross induction kit on a MY99 PPP for 35000 miles and it never caused a single problem! Go figure

Go to Don Palmer ( Wetter the Better courses etc). I've just come back from spending last Saturday torturing my P1 around Bruntingthorpe with him and he made a bigger difference than the big brakes/ exhaust etc that I had already had done. Have a look at Don's the Don in the track day section - Satori's post.
