Default Do I need a fuel pressure regulator or fuel pump?

Hi all,

in the middle of a build which I am putting car to near standard and was wondering I have some 740cc injectors to fit but everything else is going to be standard on the car pretty much and then it will be mapped.

do I need a fpr or fuel pump as max bhp is going to be 330 surely ?

would I also get away with standard 380cc injectors?

it’s a v1 sti by the way

380cc won't be big enough to get over 300 bhp, 440cc will be maxed out at 330 ish. Aftermarket fuel pump like a walbro and an adjustable fpr will be needed and will help the mapper. The standard V1 intercooler will run out of puff around 300.

so if the ic runs out of puff at 300 , can the original injectors be used as they are , plus an updated fuel pump , and accept less bhp ?? , otherwise it’s lots more work for little or no benefit ? and it would save a lot of money , is a replacement used ic the way to go ? is it an sti with a better gearbox or wrx as that’s a limiting factor too based on the gearbox strength ,from memory the classic sti were around 260 to 280 bhp

its a v1 sti that was taken from production in the early 6 months, limited run, I have the sti tmic and the gearbox is a ty752.

started as 250bhp but will be happy with 300 and if I can get there with the standard injectors and fpr then I will be happy to do that and keep it as original as possible with a bit extra punch over standard.

if it was me , i would keep it pretty original , do the pump and see how you get on from there , if you manage another 30 to 50 bhp that’s a healthy leap in power , plus save quite a bit of time and £

to be honest that’s what I was thinking aswell, would I definitely need the pump as-well then?

looks like il be putting the 740cc side feed injectors on eBay tonight then.

I think I have a set of 440cc ph1.5 injectors here and a 3 month old 340 lph fuel pump that was fitted before I upgraded two cars. If any use to you PM me and i'll go and check in about six different places for the injectors but I know where the fuel pump is

Standard fuel pump is man enough but why wouldn't you change it... it's a very important part and your current one is now ancient. A nice new walbro can be had for 70ish quid, it's a no brainer.

Sell your big injectors and buy the 440's above, fit then and forget about FPR's. Car will make a shade over 300bhp and be great fun.

yeah I thought it may be worthwhile with the pump at least, was going to replace with standard but may as well upgrade it, will the 440’s allow for much more then or like an extra 20bhp tolerance for example?

maybe worth just doing pump and see how it goes , was it re mapped before or is this the first time , a good map and a fuel pump is a great mod in itself

no never been mapped as far as I know I haven’t even driven the car yet as I purchased with blown block.

it has a u8 ecu which I believe can not be mapped so I have a power fc to install instead.

You'd be far better with this than an Apexi.
