Default How to set up a defi oil pressure gauge

i have a 3 pod gauge on my hawk dashboard with defi's in it, i have oil temp/oil pressure and boost. ever since ive had the car (2 years now) the warning buzzer on my oil pressure gauge drives me crazy.

when its ticking over when its warmed up and been driven for a while the oil pressure reads around 1.8 bar which i believe is correct but the buzzer is constantly going off. am i right in thinking that it should be going off around 1 bar of pressure? this seems worse since my recent oil change and its driving me bonkers.

the defi controller is in my glove box if somebody could talk me through it please, the oil pressure gauge is in the middle of the 3 gauges.

oil pressure from cold is around 6-7 bar and same when WOT

thanks in advance

just lower the threshold the alarm is set at slightly. mine does this after an oil change as well. normally have mine set at 1.8 as well but sometimes have to lower it a bit after an oil change. i wouldnt set it at 1 bar as that is apparently what your standard warning light is set at and if i remember rightly most people say its too late by then.

You need to push the play button on the control unit until the warning lights start flashing
then push the play button again you will see one of the red lights flashing much faster . Then push play again until the fastest flashing light is on your oil pressure gauge.
Then use the up and down arrows to lower or higher your settings
hope that make sense

For future reference if it's a Defi version II controller

Page 98 of document (Page 45 of PDF below) if you see what I mean

NOTE*Regarding the oil pressure and fuel pressure gauges, the warning LED goes on at a lower value than the set value and a buzzer sounds

Regarding the levels, following a discussion with Bob Rawle he suggested following settings on mine:
- Oil temp max 115
- Oil pressure 20
- Boost 1.5 bar

Have you read the relevant page in the manual??

*Regarding the oil pressure and fuel pressure gauges, the warning LED goes on at a lower value than the set value and a buzzer sounds.*When the ignition switch is turned on but the engine is not started, the oil pressure sensor reads 0kPa and a buzzer sounds due to the warning condition
With oil at working temp
Your OEM warning light comes on at 2.1psi or 14.7kPa. I would assume you would want to set it somewhere higher than that.
At tick over (600rpm) the OEM oil pump delivers oil at 14psi or 98kPa so somewhere below this value or the equivalent value for the oil pump fitted.

14 psi is under 1 bar correct?

What I would do is take the car for a good hard run, get the oil hot and then see what your pressure is reading then set the alarm to just below that. Is your gauge in bar or psi?

Same same 10kPa - 1.0Bar at sea level.

I’d find the hot oil pressure. Then set the alarm to just below that. By 0.1-0.3Bar or 1-3kPa below that. That way you’re warned of oil pressure reduction from norm.

You should be setting it 0.3 Bar below the Hot Oil pressure on New Oil. as the Oil in your engine degrades and loses it properties, the viscosity reduces and in turn, so does the pressure. Usually the OEM grade of Oil (5W40) will be about 2.3 Bar once up to temp (85°) so as it degrades it will drop so set you pressure at 1.9 Bar.

If you have already got 1.8Bar on Hot Oil of a 5W40 grade then I would look to get your oil changed as it has done its job and needs to be changed.

Always change oil when it no longer does its job properly, NOT when the mileage says so!

The oil pressure depends on which grade/viscosity u use and if u have oem oil pump or for example upgraded RCM one...

So if u have 5W40 as i do and i have RCM "uprated" oil pump "still as oem just slightly better oil pressure maybe for 0.3-0.5bar more than OEM one.

So COLDSTART: anywhere between 6.5-7bar
WOT almost same or +/- 0.5bar
cruising at 90degrees oil temp at 3k rpm around 5bar
when your car is fully warmed up and oil temp is 85 degrees or hotter (on idle) you should read somewhere between 0.8bar(oem pump) to around 1.2bar

So i have warning light set at 1bar(because i know if everything is fine i shouldnt get lower reading than that) if u have oem pump then u probably have somewhere around 0.8bar-1bar of pressure so i would reccomend to set it at around 0.7bar and u are good to go...

If u have higher grades of oil for example 10w50 u should read around 2bar on idle probably or at least somewhere between 1.5-2bar
