Default Prosport Gauge's need help (updated)

Ive got them all installed and all seems well, Used this kit to install

http://www.scoobyparts.com/acatalog/...TTING_KIT.html

Couple of questions -

1. Any idea were the p clip fixes too?

2. What would you set the Gauge peaks too

Oil Pressure is set in Psi it sits about 25psi on tick over

Turbo Psi ive been hitting 19psi which is about 1.3 bar About right for stock turbo

Oil Temp F when stationery seen it at 210f normal driving around 190f

Were would you set the warnings too.

3. Ive noticed that the Oil Pressure gauge does sit still it moves about, Any idea's what this could be?

Cheers

3 Oil pressure will vary between 6bar and 2bar depending on revs and oil temp.

Mine warm tickovers at 2bar, cold tickover 6bar, warm running (2k upwards) 4-6 bar

2. Mine is also mapped at 1.3bar so my peak is set at 1.5bar (21psi)

But surely it shouldn't bounce around should it?

Normal rule of thumb is 10psi of pressure per 1000 rpm's, but ideally not sitting much below 29psi on tickover

Sorry im not the brightest when it come's to this,

So say im sitting in traffic 25psi should the needle stay there or is it ok that it will go up to 30 psi then back down and keep doing it

It's what Subaru's do

Might be exaggerated by your dials... mine used to vary more with R-Spec's than the current Defis.

Constant RPM's should give a constant reading.

Blipping the throttle will see the needle jump up..then settle back to the previous pressure...

Just re-read your post,

a 0.3bar "sway" of the needle on tickover wouldn't worry me if that's what you mean

Gauges are great... but there is a lot of truth in the saying "you can have too much information"

My R-Spec's nearly gave me a heart attack when the oil pressure bottomed out at 0.2bar on tickover..with alarms and lights...

Turned out to be a dodgy sensor.

Que Defi's... my heart aint that strong!

Having driven Shanes car today I found it a bit unusual for the oil pressure gauge to "bounce" up and down (by 5-10psi) when on boost. I've never seen it on mine nor any other Scoob I've driven. Surely that isn't normal?

i had mine fitted the other day, and do the same.

im sick of the bloody start up noise, and i found the boost gauge appears to be reading higher than what its set too, and the oil pressure one has a mind of its own.

will have a mess about, and make some changes i think.

Most likely the gauges/sensors.... They can be erratic

Are these the electronic wireless ones?

How accurate do people find the Prosport gauges?
My car's mapped to 334/335 but my peak boost has been 22PSI which I
think is about 1.5bar.
Would that be right?
Can find my graph to check.

Cheers Jon im never good at writing down what the problem is.

I think in terms of giving good readings the Boost and oil temp seem pretty good, Just the Oil Pressure Gauge seems odd,

I worry about everything Jon i can't help it.

PS cheers for today

The trouble with some guages is they are too literal and give instant readings of oil pressures which do in actuality fluctuate and pulse. I believe that some types are damped so they show a mean average across a predetermined time span, perhaps a second or so. It's a bit like how the fuel guage doesn't whip up and down when you slam on the anchors with a half full tank.

I've not fitted any to my current car yet and I'm considering using the electronic ones which iron out a lot of the bumps but soon show anything which is of interest. Just a case researching to find a decent bit of kit in my case.

When I 1st installed my oil pressure gauge is was bouncing all over .. changed the sensor and it settled down nicely .. high pressure upon startup and on boost .. after warm comes down a bit .. and then drops to a static level on tickover ...

I don't know whether it necessary .. but I deliberately dab the accelerator before moving off in order to ensure oil pressure has built up again as I move off

From what I've read on here in various threads and from experience of the Prosport gauges in my sons EVO and his GF's Fiesta ST, I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole!

Glad you found it helpful, it was meant more as a warning to those contemplating the installation of gauges. I've heard of too many issues with this product

Traveling at 75mph today for over 15mins and the oil pressure guage need moved up and down anywhere between 60 and 90 psi, I can understand a bit of movement but surly 30psi is a bit too much?

I imagine that's causing you a degree of annoyance, it would me lol. Might be worth getting hold of the contact details for the manufacturer and dropping them a mail to see what they think. Did the instructions for the guage include a set of specifications? The trouble is, there may in reality be momentary spikes in your oil pressure that the guage, because of poor damping is responding to, so in reality it might be doing what it says on the packet.

If you've not had it long I'd be inclined to get in touch with the retailer and tell them that the guage is playing about from time to time and ask if they'll have it back and let you choose an alternative product in light of the fact you've lost faith in the type you already purchased. At the end of the day, providing you have hooked it up in the correct manner it should meet your anticipation of the product to a reasonable extent. You never know, maybe it is actually faulty but I suspect the internals are not geared up to smooth out the pressure measurement so it can be presented to the person reading the guage as an overall picture of what's occurring with the oil pressure as a snapshot average.

I don't know the mechanics of how your guage is connected, but is it possible you've got a small amount of air trapped in the installation, as that would expand violently when the oil is hot? That's kind of grasping at straws and as already said without knowing the exact nature of the installation, it's possible to speculate all kinds of things. Generally a gas or liquid's pressure can be smoothed by it passing through a small reservoir which allows any anomalies in its flow to be evened out by having to work against the mass in the reservoir. I suspect the difference with guages that don't do the fandango for no apparent reason, as I already stated in my previous reply have a damping mechanism.

The bottom line I guess, is if you are not happy with it do something about it rather than wasting your time and patience trying to get a decent result from a guage that's simply not delivering what you want.

regards

Tim
