Default No oil pressure on defi

Hi guys.
I posted up about this on Monday but got more info now.
I've got a sti hawkeye on 30k miles
On first start up when cold the oil light on the dash goes off as normal but the pressure on the defi doesn't register straight away until I blips the throttle. Then goes up as normal. Once I've used it and switched off I can come back to the car a couple of hours later and it will be fine. It's just on that first anishal start up when cold.
A few people on Monday said it may be a cracked oil pick up????

Any help would be appreciated. In located in north London if any one can help or tell me a good place to go to

Thanks in advance

James

Try a mechanical oil pressure gauge.

As above, have the oil pressure checked with a mechanical gauge.
The oil pressure warning light ( or engine fu*cked light as I call it) lights up/goes off at 2 PSI so if the Defi's are showing zero oil pressure, then there is a good chance you have a fractured oil pickup pipe.

Bad earth in the sensor perhaps. Using a lot of PTFE tape around the seal can cause that.

Worth a try. I presume you did use a sealing tape around the sensor, or have you used a sandwich plate from the oil filter?

No not using a sandwich plate. I didn't fit the sensor originally so not sure it was used but has always been ok. Goin to get a mechanical gauge put on next week and see what that's saying

Wouldn't hurt to check that then. Won't cost anything. There was a thread on here years ago about a bloke that used electrical tape to seal his, and consequently ruined his engine as the tape fell in the engine.
So it doesn't matter if it used to work, the tape or sealer may have failed.

Like a say, its a quick, free and easy check.
