What to look out for - 2010-on WRX hatch
Hi all
I miss the burble. Had a 93 WRX wagon, 99 UK Turbo and 2001 Bugeye STI, but they all went a long time ago. Got a young family now and WRXs come up very rarely here (I'm from the UK and used to import cars from Japan, but now I live in Estonia and market here is very small (also car has to be LHD)). Think I'm looking at a 2010-on WRX hatch. Not an STI. I know about the problem with the 2.5 engine which is why I'm looking at post 2010 but I'm finding it difficult to find info on what to look out for on this year/model.
So, what should I look out for? Any help appreciated!

And it's great that this forum is so welcoming and helpful. Was reading the thread on the dude with £6k looking for a car, you're all really understanding, especially as all that info is in here (albeit probably buried somewhere in multiple threads), thank you all again.

There's an YouTube explaining about the 2.5 STI engines. Not saying you can't get a 2.5 that doesn't develop a fault. But the problem is how do you know. And are you prepared to run the risk.

But there's no good news there either. As i said i know people who have owned the Hawkeye for years and no faults. But as far as i know there's no check list to find out if its a time bomb or not. To be honest it wouldn't put me off. The hatch models seem to be cheaper than most anyway, i'd buy one then save for rebuild. Or buy one with a blown engine. and forge it.

anybody buying a 2.5 in either wrx or sti flavour needs to be aware that the 2.5 is a flawed engine and more often than not will require a re-build at some point,a slush fund of around £3k-£4k should be set aside ready just incase.
the year of production matters not, there was a guy on here whos 2017 model with 6k on decided to lunch itself.
