Default potential jdm. any info much appreciated

Hi All

Am still on the search for an early classic jdm, am currently speaking to a man about this one.

he bought it in February from Norwich and now it is in Essex, any one on here had any dealings with this car, he wants £3600 but am sure he is open to offers. dont know wether to hold out for an sti or go for a wrx, am really looking for standard as possible as a future investment and a bit of weekend fun.

Classic look - nice. Engine bay looks a bit tatty. Leverage? Also - rust? Arches?

excellent cheers guys for the help. he sent me a couple of videos and it looks pretty solid no rusty arches just starting to bubble on the outside very small, and underneath just surface rust from what i can see. seats look clean with a small bit of sag on the drivers bolster.
i dont think i would pay more then £3k to be honest but i need to see it first
anyone close by to come meet me and have a look

Dont agree that the engine bay looks tatty. It’s 23 years old and only the rad looks done, with a bit of rust on the PAS pump. Rest looks way, way above average for the age.

If it is as good in real life as the pics, it’s a good one.

"no rusty arches just starting to bubble on the outside very small". Does this mean that there are small rust spots on the exterior face(s) of the rear arches? If so, then the situation may be a lot worse than it seems. The arches rust from the inside out and what you see is the tip of the iceberg. Do a thorough check of the arches and suspension turrets; there are many threads that show how bad it can get and how much it costs to put right. Realistically, many classics and some New Age cars will be suffering.

I wouldnt be shy in asking for the rear end to be lifted and and the rear wheels to be removed for a proper look at the rear arches.

I'd also be worried about the uppipe mod and no apparent mapping.

Most classics will have some internal corrosion of the rear arches...If it's been used as a daily then it's bound to have surface rust and an 'honest' engine bay..At £3.5k it's never going to be show car standard, but the underpinnings of the car seem ok...
You have to be realistic..It will require things to be done, it just depends on how fussy the buyer is, the budget and other priorities. It will certainly require cosmetic work, the extent of which is down to the new owner..
Personally, If i had a potential buyer who wanted to start removing wheels and so on I'd be a bit reticent because a) the timewaster factor, b) the aggro c) it's a 3 grand car..but i take you point...
When i sold my M3 last year, I had a clown ask if I'd take it to Sytner for a BMW inspection...I politely declined and referred him to other cars on the market.

Decat downpipe doesn't need a remap, other than that it's a standard car.

cheers for the input. To be honest i think i am going to be looking at a fresh import or a newer age car. i dont think i have the patience to deal with rust. i am starting to like the look of these

They are growing on me the more i look at them but all i read is dont buy the 2.5 litre. can someone please explain why not

cheers i am so indecisive being a libran i just cant decided what to spend my money on, one minute its a classic jdm the next its a forester sti and every other subaru in between lol.
