Version 1 replacing intake Resonator box
This is my current intake system setup.
Now i know you can get Apexi resonator deletes but i tried this and i didnt like the angle the air filter was at, with my current setup the air filter gets direct cold air from above the headlight (with the bonnet brow rubber removed)
Now, i want to remove the plastic resonator box but still keep the current angle/setup of the air filter.
ive done some measuring and the maf/90 degree elbow require an 80mm Inner diamter hose/pipe and the turbo intake side requires a 65mm inner diamter hose/pipe.
Now to my question, i am looking to get this ( 80mm - 70mm )
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/90-Degree...vwF1QDgKuiBt1A
Then get a 65mm alloy pipe to put inside the 70mm end and into the turbo intake pipe currently on the turbo (standard one ) , will 70mm compress ok to seal around a 65mm tube ? and is 70mm wide enough to allow good air flow into the turbo over the current black box resonator ? Or do i get an 80mm to 60mm and force the 65mm pipe into it , not sure it will go in tho ?
thoughts ?
cheers

Cheers for the contact , will get in touch , I've approached a couple of fabricators but they lose interest as soon as you mention the reducer part lol

I have been struggling with this for quite a while. I want to keep my oe airbox but get rid of the resonator box.
At the moment the only way I can get rid of the resonator box is to have a pod filter and delete, which i found on ebay.
There are a ton of forum posts on how to make your own, unfortunately there are a ton more referencing the original guides that you have to go through until you find the instructions.
There is the coffee cup mod, and there is a guide on how to use silicone pipe that just fits together with jubilee clips and another on what stainless pipe to buy with correct joins and then get a welder to put it together.
If I can find them again ill post them up.

what is this resonator delete all about. Is there any benefits to it what's involved in it and is it something I can do to my uk2000?

The resonator box was only fitted to the early MY93-96 engines, with top-entry turbos. It sat downstream of the airbox and MAF - between the MAF and turbo intake pipe - and acted as an intake air silencer. So, potentially, being restrictive to airflow: not ideal if you intended to up the power/get mapped.
With OEM resonator in place:
With a MRT resonator delete pipe (discontinued) in place:
Yours however, being a MY97, is the first MY of the 'under-the-inlet-manifold' front-entry turbo engine layout. So, doesn't have one.

I've got a custom setup.
Largest K&N tapered cone I could get in the space below my Hyperflow FMIC intake hard pipe; a cut-down 76mm dia. alloy pipe with a 45-deg bend, between filter and turbo intake hose (I have no MAF, as I have Simtek Mk.2).

Well after fitting DIY coffee mod resonator delete ive found my AFR`s are now rich as ****, WOT they are down to 10, they were a steady 11.2 at WOT
Currently even half load goes to 10.8 AFR
So, running an ESL ive just lowered the injector scale to flow less fuel but am baffled as to why its more rich with this in place, it doesnt look any less restrictive than the original resonator.
all very weird.
If i cant map in a suitable AFR i will resort to going back to the resonator box.

My pill was removed when it was mapped.
If I do the coffee mug mod as i was planning can i leave the hose vta?
Would that be what is causing Rig's afr's to mess up?
I dont have the first clue when it comes to mapping.
