Default New family car

I’ve currently got an E92 330D as my daily which after the arrival of my new son is just impractical so looking for a new family car.
So far i’ve narrowed it down to 2 choices and wondered people’s opinions on space and which engine is stronger poor possible future “tweaking” .

1. Subaru Legacy BP5 2.0 Spec B estate manual
or
2. Subaru Forester 2.5 STI

obviously know ones a 2.0 and ones the 2.5 and read different reviews on the engines so thought i’d ask from people on here. As said also interested to know if much difference on space inside as have 2 dogs too

Thanks for any advice

I've not had and FSTI (yet) but I've had a newage wrx wagon and I've currently got a jdm bp5 twinscroll legacy.
One if the reasons I moved from the wrx to the leggy was size. The legacy is huge. The boot easily fits my son's roland drum set and with half the seat down we can easily chuck a couple of mountain bikes in.
However the legacy is not as nimble as an impreza. Mine has had a remap and a thicker rear anti roll bar so it handles and goes well, but it's much more of a fast B road machine than the impreza.
The plus side it's much quieter, better equipped, larger and more refined than the wrx. For a big car it handles really well. The downside is that it doesn't have the manic feel and character of an impreza.
One thing to consider is that there aren't many upgrade parts available in the uk for the JDM legacy. While the engine is basically the same, the chassis, brakes and suspension are all unique to the legacy.
As I understand it, the FSTI is basically an impreza chassis so a lot more suspension parts bolt straight on.

Cheers the reply. I had looked around for aftermarket parts for the legacy but hadn’t seen any whereas Forester does appear to have more but as said looking for the best all rounder for space and reliability on the engine too between the 2.0 and 2.5.
Once i sell my BMW I think i’ll just have to go out and road test a couple of each to see which feels better

You are not looking hard enough.
I have had both. The Foggy is based on an Impreza chassis so the space is not that great. Now on my second Spec B GT WR Ltd as it is much bigger and better built than the Foggy.

Try this one

Or this.

That’s brilliant thanks, I was hoping someone may have had both to have compared the size of them.
Is it true what i’ve read about the legacy 2.0 twin scroll engines that they don’t like much more power than standard?

Just read your thread and it’s a great read. Pretty much answered my own question that a map should take it to a safe 330bhp. Will keep checking on your thread if I do manage to go for one

I've also got a thread going where I'm trying to bring my legacy back to respectable condition:

Mine has got an auto box so I've kept it to sub 300 bhp when re-mapped.
